FS 1974 Fender P Bass Sunburst w/ Maple Orig and Clean

Sign in to disble this ad
Hard times I tell ya, if it sells, it sells, I know I'll regret it. If it doesn't, I'm sure I'll be relieved. Here's what I've got:

1974 Fender Precision Bass, Sunburst body, 1-5/8 Maple neck. Original: covers, grey bottom pickups, bridge, tuners, pickguard, neck plate...serial number 627390. Neck stamp is 0103-4944 (Pbass/maple neck/49th week/1974/thursday) All inspection stamps and whatnot clear in the neck pocket and on the heel of the neck. Can't read the pickup dates, as the foam is stuck to the bottom of the pickups, but I know they're original. The only things I know for sure that have been changed are the pots. They were done in the late 80s by the original owner. The bass hasn't seen much action, frets are 95%, neck is set up with just a slight bow, no buzzes. Action is low. Truss rod looks as though it's never been touched. This bass has the expected thump and growl. Weighs an even 9lbs, and is balanced nicely. Not the heaviest P I've felt, but also not nearly as light as my '83 62 RI. I would expect the body is Alder. Slight wear, dings and such around the edges, but no big "oh sh*ts". Honest wear for a 36 year old player, who hasn't seen much action. Finish has a slight fade to it (apparent under bridge cover), with only slight crazing to the lacquer. Neck finish is beautiful, slightly honeyed with time. One ding at the bottom edge of the 9th fret, other wise clean clean clean. At the advertised price, I'll let it go with a really nice, non orig hsc, probably from the 80s. The one the bass was in when I bought it. If you want to save yourself $100, I'll exchange it for a beater hsc case. Nothing wrong with it, just not as nice as this one. I'm just trying to make myself feel better, that if I actually sell this bass, I'll keep the nice case for my other bass. $2000 shipped CONUS, or $1900 with the perfectly usable but not as nice hsc, shipped CONUS. PM me to discuss payment options, or with any questions. If I don't sell it somewhat quickly, I'll likely close the thread and pull the bass.

Thanks all... lot's of pics, have a look. (new pics of the bridge and pickups with covers removed. Also one in the "nice" case- orange. And "not so nice" case- blue)

Holy crap! That is in fantastic condition. I'm jealous of whoever is about to buy this.

added a few new pics...bridge and pickups with covers removed. You can see how the orange in the sunburst has faded on the body by how much more of it exists under the bridge cover...make sense? eh, look at the pic, you'll see what I mean.

Did I mention this is the best playing, most resonant P bass I've ever owned?

LAST CALL bump 74 p bass

I'm leaving the bass up through the weekend. If there are no takers by Monday, then she goes back in hibernation.

....replaced the incorrect knobs with real flat top p bass knobs, gave the truss rod a crank (smooooth) and did a proper set up, she's plays like butter now. I sold another guitar I had up (6 string ric) , so there's no urgency for me to get rid of this beauty anymore. I have an original thumb rest on the way, so it should look 100% original now.
Like I said, I'll leave it posted through the weekend. I'm not budging on the price, after that...back into hibernation!!

bass of my dreams ...

once upon a time i owned & loved a '74 Sunburst P, it was my love & then i landed on some hard times & had to trade her for food ... beautiful to see one in such great shape ... did you ever bring her back out of hibernation? such a shame if she's not listened to daily! =D
