FS:1974 Jazz Bass

For Sale: My 1974 Jazz Bass, SN# 374xxx.

The backstory: I bought this from Jimmy Coppolo's NY shop as he was segueing into just making and selling his basses. Other than the body and neck there is not much stock left on the bass. When I got it it had the Badass Bridge, new pickguard. new tuners, the finish had been stripped off the neck and EMG pickups with accompanying electronics. Further, it was in need of refretting. I had Jimmy refinsh the neck in a light gloss (like what he does on his basses), refret the bass and he built and installed for me a set of era appropriate pickups with high quality, appropriate electronics.

This bass sounds amazing, very classic mid 70's funk tone. It plays and feels great as well. Cosmetically, there is a good deal of wear and tear. You can see the size difference of the replacement tuners, there is some pitting on the back of the neck (the front is fine) and there is belt rash and other dinging on the back and front. The front has two screw holes for a bridge cover. Further, the neck does not appear to have a date stamp, I wonder if that is quirk of the era or if it got sanded off by whoever removed the finish from the back of the neck. UPDATE: Co-incidentally there is another thread about this very topic and in fact it is not uncommon for there not to be a date during this era but there is a name on the heel and I have included a photo further down.

So, obviously this is not a collectors piece but it plays like a dream and had seen minimal use since Jimmy gave all of this TLC to it! Personally, the black block necks are about as sexy as it gets for Jazz Basses.

$1450 shipped in the CONUS, $1415 plus fully insured, declared trackable shipping outside the US. PayPal only.

Neck heel

Kind of a confusing photo as a shim was used at somepoint that left lettering (in reverse DaVinci style) but to the right of that you can see the name "Armenta" stamped on the heel.

You can lightly feel the pits but it is not distracting (to me certainly).

By the way, the weight of the bass is 9.2lbs.

Thanks!
