FS: 1976 Univox Stereo Bass (Ric copy)

SOLD

Now that I have my very own Rickenbacker, I no longer need my beautiful fireglo 1976 Univox Stereo Bass with OHSC. This "Rickenfaker" bass is very, very close to mint condition. There are only a couple of small nicks in the paint on the top of the headstock, which you can see in the pictures. The case has some scuffs, but is perfectly serviceable. I would love to keep this bass as a backup, but I just don't have the room--plus it would be hard to explain to my wife the need for two almost identical basses! Please note: I'm not looking for trades at this time.

The sustain and growl of this bass is amazingly close to the real thing. The biggest noticeable difference is the scale--the Univox is 34". Other than that, you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference from off-stage. Closer inspection shows that the jackplate says "Stereo-sound" instead of "Rick-o-sound" and that there is only one truss rod instead of two.

I upgraded to a chromed brass Hipshot bridge, for individual string adjustment and tail-lift elimination, but I will include the original bridge as well. The original worked perfectly fine, but the action was slightly higher than it is now. The bass was set up by professional luthier Chuck Ware.

I'm asking $800 shipped to the CONUS, but I would be willing to come down to $675 if you do not want the Hipshot bridge. It was a straight drop-in replacement, so it would be no problem for me to re-install the original for you.

And here's the pics:

Two closeups of the nicks:

And a couple of original bridge shots:

All PM's replied.

Additional info, as I realize what people want to know:

"with OHSC" means "with original hard-shell case".

The neck is thinner front-to-back and top-to-bottom than a real Ric. Think Jazz and you have the idea. Immensely playable. Strings are less-than-a-month-old roundwounds.

The weight is right around 9 pounds on the bathroom scale. Feels much lighter than my P-bass.

The tone is as close as you'll get to the real thing without being the real thing.

Prices include shipping with insurance and delivery confirmation, so you pay only what is listed above. If you live local to Long Island, NY and want to come pick it up, you'll pay $40 less.

The Hipshot definitely improves the action, but it's pretty darn good with the original bridge, which was only lifting a millimeter or so. The strings were just a little high at the top end of the neck, but what do you need to do up there anyway, fancy-pants?

I'd love to buy it but I have no money. Just for any potential buyers can you say what the pups are? Are they stock univox ones or are they upgraded?
Thanks

As far as I can tell, they are stock. My luthier said they tested really strong (I forget what he said the exact output was, but it was more than acceptable for both.) It's a toaster in the neck position and a more hi-gain-style one at the bridge. Pickups made for Rickenbackers (either by Ric or SD, Bartolini, etc.) could be installed with little to no adjustment necessary. I didn't see the need to do that, however, as these pickups were perfectly capable.
