FS: 1976 Vintage American Fender Precision Bass w/HSC, EMGs-Awesome!

Sign in to disble this ad
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL 1976 VINTAGE FENDER PRECISION BASS.

LOOKS GREAT - PLAYS GREAT - SOUNDS GREAT - GREAT DEAL!

An original Vintage American Precision Bass with upgraded EMG Jazz and Precision Pick Ups, professionally installed and set up by Paul Unkert Guitars, Toms River, NJ. http://www.unkguitars.com/ (He built Eddie Van Halen's guitars...and knows this instrument well). Sounds incredible.

Comes with an Original Fender Jazz Bridge cover (Mint) and lined vintage Hard Shell Case in good condition.

Regrettably, I am selling this bass which I was hoping to play much more than I have. I realize that I am a Jazz bass guy and I simply won't use this bass to its potential, in spite of its vintage beauty and sound. I love vintage and I love Fender, but I am simply watching it sit in the case and cleaning it. The bass is just about flawless in every way! Has some minor vintage wear but much less than one would think from a 35 year old bass. Hard to show in pictures. I tried to capture the bass as best as possible with the many photos.

Part of the "thinning the herd" project. Will make someone very happy (not just my wife!)

Recently professionally set up and examined; pots & hardware great, neck straight, no cracks or major imperfections. A perfectly clean, awesome P-Bass.

Serial #: 591761 (Fullerton, CA)

Bass is Black with newer White Pearloid pick-guard, Maple Neck and Maple Fret-board. The upgraded EMG p-ups make this bass really thump with deep, vintage tone.

Width at the nut is 1 5/8 inches.

Weight is about 8.5 lbs on my scale.

The bass/case will be wrapped, packed and shipped tightly, neatly & professionally.

Asking $1550 shipped CONUS.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

My '76 P fretless has a 4-bolt. It must be one of the last '76-ers before they changed to the 76XXXXX serial numbers on the headstock (around mid-'76 I believe). When did they change the neck bolt configuration? (Sorry if I'm off here; I got the impression from BasstotheFace's post that there weren't any 4-bolts made in '76.)

In any case, according to the Fender site:

400,000s to 500,000s 1974 to 1975
500,000s to 700,000s 1976

so this 591XXX could be any of the three years.

Nice bass - good luck w/ the sale

Nice bass. Do you have any photos of the Jazz route without the cover? Also, what is the weight? That Jazz cover looks ridicules on a P bass, btw

Thanks for all the feedback, compliments and interest so far. I will try to answer all questions above and the PMs I have received:

- Fairly certain its a 1976. I have had it dated before and confirmed, but will re-confirm again.
- Weight is about 8.5 lbs per original post.
- I will try to post additional photos without the Jazz tray, but I think it looks dynamte with the cover. BTW, that's what I regularly get compliments on the most. Other than the sound.
- These are the original Fender tuner keys (all hardware is original) and they work perfectly. No sticking or loosening whatsoever. Totally solid. No grime or rust. You would never know they are 35 years old.
- Neck/fret-board show NO signs of wear, no dings or dents. Really wonderful shape.
- All latches on the case work.
- Assume total shipping weight will be around 20 lbs.
- Sorry, no interest in trades on this one. Thanks for the offers. Should have put that in original post.
- Of course, will take into consideration local cash / carry offers.
- Won't ship internationally, sorry. Lo Siento Amigos, Gomen-nasai Tomodachi. Even for a slight premium. Muchas Gracias, domo-arigato. (To answer my Ecuadorian and Japanese TB colleagues).
- Yes, PayPal is OK. I prefer it actually.

Keep the questions coming.

Have a great weekend.

JM

Joey,

Doing well and hope you are, too! I'm on a business trip and headed home tomorrow. May have to come over to NJ and check-out that P-Bass

My wife is still loving the pink Dean bass. I also got her a black Musicmaster short scale bass for her Birthday, which is tomorrow. Should have bought that off-white one from you (or traded for it) when I had the opportunity!

Wow!! Just confirmed that its actually a 1975! Different sources and different 'experts' had 74 75 and 76. I went directly to Fender... Now even more vintage and more valuable! Just thought I would share. Directly from Fender.
