1978 Fender original Pbass FS pictures by Matthewpmorris - Photobucket
I have had this bass for 4 years and bought it from the second owner. This is completely original, paint, pickups, pots, bridge, tuners, pickguard, thumb rest, case. minus schaller straplocks.
The neck date stamp code is worn off except for the last two digits which denotes the year of production and the day of production...which are 82 and was inspected by G. Garcia.
a normal heel code looks like B0103-15-82
• B = neck width which is 1-5/8” at the nut
• 01 = code for Precision Bass
• 03 = code for Fretted Maple Neck
• 15 = 15th week of production
• 8 = 1978
• 2 = made on the 2nd day of the week
this bass was neck was stamped in 78" on the 2nd day of the week.
the volume pot is stamped 137-7834
and the tone pot has 137-7 visible, the remaining numbers have solder and a wire attached
• 137 = CTS brand pots
• 78 = 1978
• 34 = 34th week of production
pickups are "Grey bottom" fender pickups. the stamp if tough to read due to wear from foam under the pickup.
what is visible are 72-5980 and 72-6180… which seems that there from 72' and a few production units away from each other. All solder is untouched and perfect.
The headstock Serial Number is S881972 and matches the original Fender sticker on the back of the pickguard labeled S881972 .
The frets were replaced very soon after I bought the bass, They were too worn to make the bass playable. I wanted it to be play it and record with it. The luthier did a fantastic job, No signs of a replacement, as you can see in the photos.
The body has some finish checking, which all 70's fenders get. And a few dings in the finish. All visible in the photos.
the bass plays great the weight is around 9 lbs.
Comes with original hard shell case.
I have 88 positive transactions on ebay.
I am asking $1399
