FS: 1979 Ibanez Musician MC900NT

SOLD!!!!

Folks,

This is back on the block.....

You don't see many of these anymore, this was Ibanez's top of the line back in the day. This beauty used what Ibanez called the "EQ-B Tone System, which could provide any tone imaginable, from super clean to downright nasty"!

Controls are Master Volume, Active Boost Volume, 3-way selector switch, 3 active tone controls, and active on/off. The bass is in stunning condition for its age, the main noticeable flaws being some finish cracks around the input jack, probably from over tightening. A few small dings here & there. I had it gone over, neck adjusted, the active bass pot was replaced, new strings.

The wood figuring is just stunning on this bass! Sounds beautiful, everything works as it should. The Active Boost control is a hoot, this bass can growl! It acts almost like a gain control in an amplifier preamp.

The cons:
The neck has a slight "rise" around the 17th fret on the G string side, I have the action fairly low, and it will buzz up in that region. I don't play there anyway, and if you raise the action it will go away. She also is not a lightweight, weighs nearly 11 pounds.
Also the aforementioned finish cracks around the jack. The original case also has a tear near the handle, I wouldn't carry it by the handle. The interior of the case is absolutely beautiful.
Because of the neck issue, I'm selling "As-Is".

Asking $499 shipped CONUS!! Buy both my Musicians for an incredible $1000 shipped to your door!

I so want this bass but so don't have any cash. Any interest in a trade for a 2007 Fender American Strat? Equal value.

Thanks, but I'm not really a guitar player! I am open to trades though, just not sure what I'd be interested in...

Such a cool bass. Ignorant question but what modern type of pickups could you compare these pickups to? I found that Ibanez called them Super 4s but I know little about electronics and don't know what these would compare to.

Looks like they're both just single coils. Would you compare the tones of this to a jazz?

Can you give even a general idea what trades might interest you?

I never 'bump' or add those stupid comments to for sale threads like - 'If only it had 3 extra strings a maple board and was headless' or 'I'd be all over this if it had a silver input jack ' but I have to say that these basses are absolutely their own beasts. Patitucci and many other players used the Musician series basses and for good reason.
Anyone needing a very versatile and very solid instrument especially for the studio cant go wrong with this / it seriously is a swiss army knife of usable sounds.

Well....it can do the jazz thing quite nicely, but much "ballsier". Adding the active boost circuit just kills it! I've also got a later MC924 that is active, but without the boost volume.
