For sale is an excellent condition 4001 four-string from 1978 (I was wrong, it is not from 1979—Thanks Jaymi!). The finish is natural maple and evidences no cracking. There are some minor dings from light use, and there is some light buckle rash on the body, but nothing has penetrated the original finish.
Yes, that is a correct period case, and no, it is not for sale by itself. Sorry. The case latches well except one locking latch, which requires a light manual push.
I will not attempt to display all photos on the forum: Visit
http://gallery.me.com/danomar/100068 to see and/or download more detailed photos. I did my best to reveal its true condition. It truly is in excellent shape. It has not been gigged since I bought it, and I suspect it was used very moderately by its previous owner. Fret wear is minimal and the fretboard is in excellent shape.
None of the photos seem to show it off well, so here is a photo with its older brother (which is
not for sale):
All of the original hardware is included except for the original white truss rod cover.
Note that the tuning pegs are true Rickenbacker, procured from Pick of the Ricks. The bridge is a brass Hipshot item. It currently wears a set of Rickenbacker roundwound strings. I made one internal modification, the ubiquitous capacitor bypass. It does indeed improve the low-end sound. A simple snip of the wire and the tone is back to original.
