FS: 1982 Yamaha BB-800 - Completely Refinished by Pat Wilkins

I'm not sure that I really want to do this but I figured I'd throw it out here and see what kind of interest there might be.

This is an original 1982 Yamaha BB-800 that has been completely refurbished and rebuilt. It was originally black and very beat up but I sent the neck and body to Pat Wilkins for a complete refinish.

The body is now a beautiful Sherwood Green (same as Lakland's Sheerwood Green) and the neck is satin on the back and high gloss on the front of the headstock. It's quite beautiful and totally flawless............

While Pat had the body and neck I cleaned and polished all the chrome hardware with Flitz and buffed the pickguard to a dazzling shine. The electronics are totally original and work perfectly. The reverse split pickup still sounds great with a deep, clear, classically authoritative P-Bass voice!

The bass is now in perfectly "new" condition even though it's 28 years old. It looks, plays and sounds phenomenal. A true "P-Bass Killer" if there ever was one.

The only reason I even consider letting it go is for financial reasons plus I also have two more of these old BB-800s that I plan to do the same thing with. These basses are one of the most overlooked values out there IMO.

I have a little more than $800 invested in it so I'm going to start there. I'm not looking to make a profit on this, just turn it into some cash if possible.

Asking $800.00 shipped and insured in the CONUS.

I really don't have to sell this so please, no "lowball" offers. If I do sell it I will be able to start in on refurbing another one that much sooner.

Here are a few photos I took in the backyard this past weekend. There are many reflections in the photos but no damage, guaranteed! The bass is in truly "perfect" condition.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys! If you have never played one of these basses I really can't tell you how great they are. That's why I currently have 3 of them..........

I will certainly keep one. The next one I believe I'm going have done in kind of a banana cream color. Kind of like an aged olympic white. I think that will look great with the black guard!

One of you should seriously consider this bass. I might be able to be tempted with a trade + cash offer of some kind.............

If this had a matching headstock I'd be in trouble. It would be a nice match for the JO you sold me last summer.

If I could have gotten a matching headstock I would have. Unfortunately those original Yamaha logo decals are simply not available anymore and it would have required a light color logo anyway because of the dark color.

Yamaha actually made these basses in a dark transparent green color back in 1982 so this is reminiscent of that original color.

Very nice. Wilkins does amazing finishes - I've had several basses re-finished by him and all are awesome.

MMMMmmmmm.... I LOVE the look of that BB-800.

If I didn't already own 3 BB's I would go for that one!

You're gonna regret selling that baby!

You may be right and I may end up not selling it. I was trying to gauge interest and while there are a lot of appreciative "looker" so far there aren't any real "buyers". These are tough times for nice basses........

Are those the original tuners? If so you did a heck of job cleaning them up. If not where did you get them from? I'm desperately trying to find some for my BB1200.
Thanks!

Those are indeed the original tuners. I took them all apart and cleaned them with Flitz metal polish. Nothing does a better job on chrome hardware.

The best way to get a set of these old tuners is to buy a "beat" BB-300 or BB-400 on ebay. I've seen them go for as little as $100.00. Not much more than the cost of a set of new tuners.

I had the same problem with that other site. I have a BB3000s, but it said that the serial number was "invalid" - now I KNOW that this bass is a BB3000s, and it's made in Japan (stamped next to the serial number) so the serial number has GOT to be real!

It takes some 'digging' at that site, but I found out that my bass was made 1983

Here's the site where you can find the info:

http://vintageguitarpro.com/serialyamaha.shtml

I hope that's helpful!
