FS: 1983 Fender Jazz Bass (was 1978 JB)

Sign in to disble this ad
Note: I had previously listed this as a 1978 as the Fender data base led me to believe. Fellow TB-ers called my attention to a possible dating error on my part and upon removing the neck, I found it dated 1983. The Fender data base http://www.fender.com/support/usa_instruments.php listed "S8" as '77 and '78 only but obviously this is not the case. I appreciate fellow well informed TB-er's input and apologize for the confusion

For Sale: My 1983 black with white pickguard rosewood dot neck Jazz Bass. Nice slim neck. This has spent 10 years as my go-to "rock" jazz bass, in a John Paul Jones kind of way. Really thick and solid sounding as opposed to being a Marcus Miller slap machine.. It has some wear and tear (blemishes on the bottom and fair amount of buckle rash on the back) but is in great functional shape. Comes with gig bag. An amazing bass but I am just drowning in gear at this point.
- Located in NJ
- 10.5 lbs (bathroom scale)
- Original pickups though the neck pickup needed to be rewound and was lovingly done so by Jimmy Coppolo. We worked really hard on this, he rewound it 3 times for me to get it to be an exact sonic match with era appropriate NOS formvar wire.
- It has Dunlop straplock buttons and I will include a strap with the rest of the strap lock mechanism. You can use the straplock buttons with regular straps
- Everything else is original to the best of my knowledge
- There is wear on the bottom edge of the bass and along the binding of the neck. Nothing too severe (see photos)

I am asking $1300 shipped in the CONUS. PayPal only. Email me at vavvy2@aol.com Thanks!

Wow, if you think "bound with dots" was rare in '66, try this on! I think I've seen maybe one other example.

Free UBER-rare BUMP!

I thought all '83s had "bound with dots". My first real bass was a used white 1983 J Bass with same style neck.
