FS: 1983 G&L SB-1 (US) single coil P bass in VG condition!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm probably crazy for posting this as it's one of the nicest sounding basses I own. But I want to try some other things and need to make room. Plus I just picked up a near-mint 84 L-1000 (love these vintage G&L necks!!) So I'm offering up my blue/maple 83 SB-1.

The bass is very clean, esp. for a 28 year old instrument!
  • light weight @ ~8.2 lbs on my digital bathroom scale
  • awesome maple neck aging into a beautiful yellow color! shallow C profile with 1 11/16 inch nut ... these vintage G&L necks really are stellar!
  • 3 bolt neck with micro-tilt adjustment allows you to easily dial in your preferred action
  • "pre-lawsuit" headstock without the bottle opener/nipple (I know it's vain, but I much prefer these!)
  • MFD single coil precision pickup with adjustable pole pieces = killer, punchy, clear, responsive, even tone. Leo really hit a home run with these!
  • currently wearing almost new light GHS precision flats (silk is a bit frayed from trying on other basses) ... can put rounds on if preferred

Check out some high res pics here.

Given it's condition, I'm thinking $695 How about $675 shipped CONUS in a gig bag (KACES - cheap but new). Will include the strap and old school "strap locks" that came with it.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with this one!

Please PM or email if interested. Email will likely get you a quicker response. Thanks for looking!

Please no trades or low-ball offers!

Aspidites - Thanks for posting the pics!

And I appreciate the endorsements. This is a great bass -- my first vintage G&L, but definitely not my last

Wow! this is still here? If I didn't have a early 80s G&L bass museum on my hands I'd snap this one up too. Great color and finish. Must be the economy that has some of these great basses lingering on the for sale shelf.

Bump for a super bass!

Man, this thing has it all: it's gorgeous, lightweight, and cool as hell. Great price. Wish I hadn't just bought lots of stuff.

Plucky- sure, i'll ship to Canada for additional postage. Please PM your address and I'll look into cost.

I've shipped to Nova Scotia before via USPS Priority Intl . Removed the neck first, but don't remember what it cost.

it kills me that people will pass this one over and then spend as much or more on a new bass made overseas, with a fraction of the quality and character. not so much people on TB, but "people" in general.

i love everything about this bass: the simplicity of its design, the slab body, the killer G&L 1 11/16" neck and the condition it's in blows me away. time to save the pics from this ad and put 'em in my archive b/c i don't anticipate it will be around much longer. someone is going to get wise and buy it.
