FS: 1987 Ernie Ball MusicMan Stingray
Black body, b/w/b pickguard, and uniquely dark rosewood fretboard
Very beautiful maple neck with some nice birds eye...it's finished and has sheen, but not a super thick gloss
3-band EQ (if I'm not mistaken, this is the first year the 3-eq was in production)
4 Bolt neck plate, bullet truss rod
Classic bridge with foam mutes
Tolex hardcase, Ernie Ball polish cloth, and EB factory info sheet and warranty form.
This bass is in amazing condition, a closet classic if you will.
When I bought the bass, when I got the first glance, it was so shiny and new looking, that I thought, "aw man, this is no '87"...but when I spotted the bullet truss I said "OMG!"
The bass is VERY clean, especially for an '87. The chrome is still shiny and mirror-like. The bridge has the foam mutes still intact (!), still spongy and not gummy or dried out.
The neck and headstock are virginal...no scratches or dings...the lacquer hasn't even yellowed from age. The action of the knobs feel perfect, like new. There are pick marks on the pickguard. The face has some light swirls, and one pencil dot size blemish (I think it's a finish flaw, not a ding?) The back has some swirls and very very light scratches when you hold it to the light at the right angle...but there are black guitars on the wall at GC that show more marks than this beauty. All told, I'd have to call it a 9.5/10.
The tone of this bass has a lot of character. This particular 'Ray has of a lot of bite, in that Fender Jazz bark kind of way...very aggressive growl. The output is also a tiny bit hotter than the other SRs I have owned. Of course with the tone controls, it's capable of tons of other tones, and can be mellowed out/warmed up too.
The neck is very comfortable...tiny bit less chunky than many SR necks. Action is nice , the truss rod and bridge saddles all function perfectly.
It's a very well built and beautiful instrument from a special period...you can tell they put a little extra effort into the quality back then.
I didn't think I'd ever sell this guy, but my recent GAS has found me needing to thin the herd, to pay bills. I'm not able to consider trades, because I couldn't afford to pay shipping right now. Ha.
$1100 shipped to the US of A.
