FS: 1988 Rickenbacker 4003 in Mint Condition

Sign in to disble this ad
Up for sale is my 1988 Rickenbacker 4003. It is JetGlo and is in mint condition. The binding has aged to a nice cream color and the body is in fantastic shape. I currently have a PickGuardian pickup surround installed but have the original pickup cover that will be included. I recently had the "vintage" push pull pot installed that cuts some lows and gives it more of the classic 4001 tone...this is standard on new Rics but was not in the 80's.

This bass sounds and looks fantastic. People gasp when I whip it out I am really struggling with having to sell it, but we really could use the cash for other things. I reserve the right to end this offering at any time, I might just decide to keep it. So, get this awesome bass while you can before I change my mind.

I would like to get $1550 shipped.

(or as a long shot, trade it for a G&L L2000 USA/Tribute in anything but sunburst plus cash on your end for the difference)

please forgive my ignorance of all things rick, but what's with the plastic around the bridge pickup? was that standard for 80's ricks or is that an aftermarket solution to the standard metal hard ware? thanks!

That is from Pickguardian and a free bump for it. They are great. When you removed the cover from the bridge pickup on these, it leave a gaping hole with a sharpish metal edge on the cover housing. These Pickguardian things retro-fit over the cavity so you don't have a big chunk of metal. Makes it much easier to play if you are a bit aggressive. I have ripped my fingers open on a few Rics prior to discovering them

Thanks for the clarification guys. Also, like I said the original pickup cover comes with it so you can easily take off the Pickguardian piece and put that back on. I found it was limiting and yes, when I took that off, the sharp edges of the hole were a pain (literally). So I ordered the Pickguardian.

I also apologize for the ignorance, but is Jet-Glo a technical term for black?

Again, thanks for the clarification. Yes, JetGlo is black. Ric has their own way of "naming" the colors.

The action is medium-low and the neck is straight. The truss rods work fine and it was recently professionally set up. It comes with a case but it is a Guild case. It didnt come with one when I bought it but Im throwing this one in for free. Its a hardshell case that is lined and Im sure its just as nice as a Ric case. Has some knicks and scrapes on the outside but its still in good working condition.
