FS - 1989 Stingray 3 Band $950.00

Up for sale I’ve got a fairly clean 1989’ish (dated using www.musicmanbass.org) 3-band Sting Ray in Trans Red Wine. I bought this bass about a year ago b/c I always was a sucker for this color with the maple board. I love the feel of this bass and its “grindy” tone. However, I always seem to be reaching for one of my Celinders when it’s time to play. This bass is too sweet to sit in its case.

It has “yummy” figuring in the maple neck with some birds eye. There is one major blemish - a “through the finish” ding on the back of the lower horn. Other than that, there are only light swirls in the clear coat. Mild weather checking is starting to appear also – very cool in my opinion. As you can see from the photos, it has the 6-bolt neck, metal battery cover, felts intact and in good condition, and the old style bride. Also included is a Tolex OHSC with a few stickers on it. Weight is definitely on the lighter side for a Sting Ray – I would guesstimate around 9 – 9.5#’s. Currently set up with super low action for slapping but can easily be raised.

Asking $950.00 plus shipping. PM with your email for additional photos.

Lovely looking classic 'Ray. Does it have a poly finished neck, or the oil & wax finish? Also, do the strings run straight over the bridge saddles or is there a light angle to the left? (a pic of the brdige straight from above would help)

An 89 would be poly/gloss neck (the cheaper oil wax "finished" neck started in 93), and it would have a pre-Flea bridge (angled string pull); I think the Flea bridge was also early 93. btw, that bass is likely a late 90 model and not an 89 based on the 6 bolt neck plate.

It is a poly/gloss neck. The bridge does have angled string pull although the attached photo doesn't show it very well. I doubt it's anything later than a 93 b/c of the the string mutes.

This photo shows the string pull at the bridge better.

Right. I didn't write my reply very clearly. I meant that your Ray had that stuff and was pre-1993. I am fairly certain it is a 91 or 92.

IMO the early 90s is the golden period for EBMM. The Stingrays from that period are the best I seen, and production was lower at that time. These don't come up that often for sale around here, and they are great deals compared to late model Rays. This one is a super price too!
