FS: 1990 Warwick Thumb 6 Neckthru

Sign in to disble this ad
Due to a unexpected Hospital bill, I've got to move what is has become one of my dream basses. I started out on TB as a Warwick nut, and after 4 years of travelling the GAS highways and byways (MTD/Roscoe/Smith/Sadowsky...) I finally returned to the Thumb bass.

You won't find another instrument that so elegantly cuts through the mix. The Thumb bass just has a low-mid kick that cuts underneath a band but still gives you that lowend pillow if you want it. Its definitely in the 'back-by-the-bridge- camp tonally, but yet avoids sounding nasally and thin.

Alot is said here on TB about newer Warwicks versus the older models, and all I can say as someone who owns both is that while they both cop the same tone, this 18 year-old model just has a little something extra in the build quality and the dynamic range of the instrument underneath your left hand. From the infinitely adjustable brass bridge to the thinner neck shape, which his laced with beatiful Wenge instead of Ovankol, this bass is right up there in build quality with the neckthru BSR Smith 6 I owned and cherished.

The low B on this bass is deep and clear with excellent pitch definition, and the notes on the high C string remain clear and open all the way up to the High D on the 26th fret. I tend to favor the neck pickup for a deep Pbass-type fundamental, and I can cut 90%of the gig like that. When I want to go back to the bridge pickup for an articulate passage or a song needing a punchy tone, having the humbuckers slanted back towards the bridge on the low strings really cuts and slices while keeping the higher strings sounding less nasally than a traditional J placement.

Cosmetically this bass is near flawless, save for a few minor indentions on the instrument which don't show up on camera. The bass is rather heavy at 12lbs, but its a small price to play for all that beatiful bubinga. Get a comfy padded strap and you'll be fine, even for a 3 set + gig.

The ONLY reason I've got to let this go is that I need to free up some money after having to pay for some high hospital bills due to the recent birth of my first son. My loss is your gain.

Price is $1800 PRICE LOWERED!!!! shipped and paypal'd to the Contl US. No Intl. deals and NO TRADES!!!!

Here's some pics and thanks for looking!!!

Ouch... I hope everything is okay. A real man steps up and takes care of his family in times of need. I have encountered quite a few real men in this community, and you are one of them - my hat is off to you sir.

Thanks for the kind words friends. But seriously, don't worry bout this boy. The ONLY thing that sucks about this is I'll have to let go of this bass and my Fretless Thumb to pay the bill, BUT, I promise to have something truly awesome up my sleeve. Better to be debt free with atleast one bass that rhymes with Kapowski..................

Seriously, you guys are too kind considering my status as GAS-aholic!!!

I forgot to mention a small detail about these older Warwicks: their truss rods are installed so that turning the allen key counter clockwise actually tightens up the rod. Also, Warwick installed a threaded cylinder that attaches to the truss rod so that if you strip it out you can have the cylinder replaced instead of the trussrod. Awesome design that basically sits inside the neck. You'll never have to have the fretboard removed to get to the truss rod.

I will say that hilarity ensued for about a day or two after I accidentally took of the cylinder, not knowing about the reverse threads. Thankfully that stable bubinga/wenge neck didn't move a bit.
