FS: 1997 Warwick Thumb 5 NT!

Hey guys, I'm looking to sell one of my prized basses, I love it to death, but I'm just not playing it as much as it should be played.

The bass in question is a 1997 Warwick Thumb 5 string (Neck-Through).

The bass has a Bubinga body, with a 7-piece Bubinga/Wenge neck, and a Wenge fingerboard. It has a gold-hardware upgrade, and the original MEC 18v electronics, with 3-band EQ and active/passive switch. The Scale is 34" and has a tight 16.5 mm spacing.

This is a very special bass on the Warwick spectrum. For Warwick-nuts, this bass represents the last of an era, and is one of the last of the "hand-built" basses. It is also one of the last of the fully Bubinga/Wenge thumbs (Ovangkol was used in the neck soon after this bass was built). It also has the sought-after brass nut. This is the real deal and is as good as it gets for the "Warwick sound". The B-string on this thing is what made me fall in love with it, and I will probably miss it for that alone.

I am the second owner of the bass, and bought it around 2002-2003. The bass was in virtually new condition when I bought it, and it honestly has not changed much since. The only real blemish I can find are a couple of very minor scuffs towards the top of the headstock. The wood is in excellent shape, and was regularly waxed since the beginning.

The bass was given a full setup/cleaning by Greg Menacho at MSG Guitar Repair a couple of years ago and plays better than ever, but has been sitting in my closet (except for the occasional waxing) ever since.

The bass comes with its original Warwick hardshell case, that shows some wear, but is in very good condition. The bass was gigged 5 times, so it does not have any kind of extended road wear. Also included is the Comfort-Strapp with straplocks that I have used, and will include a can of wax that is running low but still has enough wax for a couple of waxings. I just waxed it so it will not be in need of a waxing for awhile.

Price: $1950 shipped

Pics are below, if anybody wants any other pics of it, or has questions, feel free to ask.

Honestly, I can't think of anything I really need right now, in the bass gear department, but if you have something in mind it can't hurt to make an offer.

Nice Thumb!

Thats a beauty from a great era. I have a 98 neckthru thumb that is all wenge and bubinga and it's an amazing instrument.

I wish I needed another bass, I'd be really tempted to trade for your LTD, what a neat bass.

I've gotten some really cool offers for trades, and I really wish I had a use for another bass, but unfortunately I really don't right now.

Bump, pretty amazing that this forum is so active that no activity in 24 hours = the 7th page.

That is a gorgeous bass man! I had a 97 thumb way back when. Fastest bass I ever played and one of only two that I regret selling. If I hadn't just spent all my cash on a Dolphin pro 1....I would loved to have made this transaction!

Oh well, the Dolphin Pro 1 is a fantastic bass though. I've never gotten to play one but I've always loved the style. When I was in the market for a Thumb back when I got this one, the Dolphin Pro was on my short list of basses I was on the lookout for besides the Thumb.

Thanks, it really is fantastic. The tone really cuts through on the Sunday morning gig. Just seems a little more 'polite' than the thumb. To borrow another member's words. So there's a kick@ss thumb bump for you. If I hit that lottery, you'll be the first person to know.

That would be sweet if you could lend a hand. 1990 Dolphin pro 1 - 4 string - Boire and wenge with platinum hardware - bartolini 2 band - has some cosmetic dings - straight neck - reasonably low action as it is set up - sounds just like friggin Stefan Lessard on the dmb album under the table. I am more at home on the 5 string though so....looking to get my $2300 back out of it o.b.o. I will try to give you a chance to respond before posting the ad. I am brenster2 on ebay...150+ auctions with 100% feedback.

can't seem to get the pic in here, but here is a link to a pic from the previous owner...
