Recently traded Metron for this bass- was looking for the tone of my G&L SB-2, but with a P-bass neck profile (the SB-2 has a thinner, Jazz style profile). Also, I was never happy with the soloed bridge pickup on my SB-2 (a fairly weak single coil in the 70s Jazz position)- having a standard J pickup in the 60s J bridge position like the Hotrod gives a much better and more useable soloed tone. It is a trans-orange finished ash body with string through bridge and rosewood fretboard. Minor fretwear, and no real damage worth mention- a ding on the end of the headstock that I will photo, and a couple minor dings/scratches in the finish that are barely visible. Really a great example of an American Fender. Also, really lightweight- the lightest bass I own (my SB-2 feels like a boat anchor in comparison- and thats the lightest G&L I've had!).

Didn't get a whole lot of sunlight today, so they are a bit dark...sorry!
Upon recieving it, I immediately swapped the P pickup with a never used G&L split-coil (the same P pickup used on the G&L SB-2). It took me a couple tries to find a Jazz bridge pickup that could get anywhere near to matching the output of the G&L P pickup- The GFS (Guitar Fetish) pickup has a 10K DC Resistance reading, so pretty much the hottest single coil J I know of. The output of the GFS pickup is much closer to the G&L P pickup than the bridge pickup in the SB-2- and sounds much better when soloed- nice and punchy, thick but present.
I was pleased enough with the tone and feel of this bass that I put my SB-2 up for trade on here a couple weeks ago- I can't really justify owning 2 basses that sound so similar. After much going back and forth on it, I decided to keep the SB-2- a little superficial, but its the looks that won me over- all black with no fret markers and matching headstock! Not for everyone- but man oh man, I just couldn't bear to see her go! Both basses are real head-turners, but the all black SB-2 just fits alot better in a metal band...
Comes in a really nice form-fitted SKB hardcase in great condition...
I'm not completely sure how much to sell this for- I have around $850 in it with the pickups and all (before shipping), but I need money for an upcoming trip to Portland- so I'll say $800 OBO shipped for now. If that doesn't do, I'll probably switch the original pickups back in and Ebay it- just thought someone on here may be interested in a badass SB-2 alternative!
The ONLY trades I might be interested in are for US Made G&L Guitars (6 string variety!)!
Thanks,
Karl
