It does have an ebony veneer sandwiched between the alder body and the chestnut top, same goes for the headstock veneer.
Condition: bass has been played quite a bit as it's been my main axe for 5 years. Neck has developed some patina and plays silky smooth, no surface damage. Body has its share of surface nicks by the input jack. Couple of epoxy patches were applied to stop belt buckle wear in the back and thumbnail wear between the 2 pickups (see pics).
Pickup position is much like a PJ with the J in the 70's position, giving it a more focused and modern J sound. this bass plays warm in fingerstyle with a powerful low B, yet the maple toneblock combined with the ebony fingerboard give it a lot of spank when slapped ... a great all around bass.
