Hello, my central NY friend and thanks for the kind words. Truth is that I am not sure if I like the Cirrus that much yet but time will tell. I can say with certainty that the early read is VERY good on every level. I will get it out live Friday for the last piece. But, more often than not, it's not just about the bass itself. I have really liked the last 4 or 5 basses I have owned and a couple guitars thrown in as well but I love the opportunity to try as many as I can reasonably try without losing my shirt. I also have a personal rule that I won't own more than one of any one type of instrument at any one time, i.e. one electric, one acoustic, one bass (with a possible exception of adding one fretless at some point). this keeps my activities disciplined and honestly, for the gig I have had for the past 16 years I don't want to carry around any more that one bass and one electric so I buy, try and move them on. Nearly every instrument that I have sold in the past 2-3 years has gone to the new owner in better condition that I received them. An interesting aside is that it's made me a pretty good guitar tech, fixing stripped screws, set-ups, fret polishing, cleaning, etc. Right now I have this real itch to work with a six enough to be comfortable. I am not making any money but I am not getting killed either and I am having a blast doing it (uh, except for the packing and shipping. I still hate that) So, under my rules, the 4 goes.
But there's a weirder, zen-ish method to my madness. Very often there will be a series of events that will lead me in places that I would have never considered going. In this case there are two.
One: Peavey. I'll admit, I may have been becoming a bit of a bass snob. Gotta break that. Personal growth.
Two: 6 string. But because I took a chance on a bit of an odd piece that didn't work out for me I was made an offer. That offer led me to some research on the Cirrus. The Cirrus Club members are a persuasive bunch, you being one of them (and I know you love yourself some Cirrus. I just read your most recent post and know you're working on becoming a fleet owner). Hmmm, light goes on. Around the same time I, for the first time, have a second bulb go off as to just what the benefits of a 6 are and thought that I could figure it out. Up until that point I honestly thought they were a bit indulgent and unnecessary. I was ignorant and uninformed. Whadda you know, yet
more personal growth.
So none of this happens if I don't let the road take me where it wants to. Who knows where this connects me but I am on my way to find out. I never really know how much longer I will play. I hope a long time but you never know. So why not try as many and as much as I can. All I know for certain is that if this does not work there sure a whole lot of pretty things in the classifieds every day that could flip the next switch.
