FS: 2005 Modulus VJ4 Quilt Sienna

Sign in to disble this ad
Well folks I am going all 6-er for a while so up for sale is my beautiful 2005 Modulus VJ4. Transparent sienna over quilt AAAAA top, one of the deepest and nicest quilts I've seen but the pictures truly tell the story. Alder body. EMG JV pickups with an EMG BTS preamp. I have had both regular EMG's and the JV's in this bass and the JV's are a little less 'biting' and 'hi-fi' sounding. More traditional but dead quiet as one would expect from EMG's. And, no knock on the Barts but I just love these basses with EMG's so much more. So much more alive. 21 fret, 34" scale carbon fiber bolt-on neck with composite fretboard, and this neck does have a fully functioning truss-rod.

Overall condition is excellent. the usual and appropriate minor markings from being played and used. A bit of finish hazing from fingers and playing on the G side of the body, minor markings on the rear form use as well. Frets also show minor signs of use but are in no way considered worn. OHSC (Original HardShell Case) in excellent condition as well. Will ship with the original Dunlop strap-lock buttons if preferred. Currently fitted with Schallers (another personal fave). Currently strung with Dean Markley Blue Steels and I will also include an additional set of very slightly used Blue Steels.

All in all just a great playing, great sounding and great looking instrument.

$1150.00 delivered CONUS. I would LOVE payment via USPS money order and will also take a personal check as long as you agree to wait for it to clear my account. Possibly a PayPal e-check as well. The biggest thing is to try to hold the fees down which I am sure we all understand. But, if PayPal is the only way and it makes the deal then PayPal it shall be. If you need to know any more about me and how I do business feel free to check out my 100% perfect eBay feedback under user name 'nervous'.

No trades at this time. I need settle down a bit and put a few dollars back into the account.

A full set of pics can be viewed here:

And a few for you to enjoy now:

Not 100% sure right now and can measure when I get home later but I believe around 9.5#-10# if I recall correctly from a prior conversation.

Hello, my central NY friend and thanks for the kind words. Truth is that I am not sure if I like the Cirrus that much yet but time will tell. I can say with certainty that the early read is VERY good on every level. I will get it out live Friday for the last piece. But, more often than not, it's not just about the bass itself. I have really liked the last 4 or 5 basses I have owned and a couple guitars thrown in as well but I love the opportunity to try as many as I can reasonably try without losing my shirt. I also have a personal rule that I won't own more than one of any one type of instrument at any one time, i.e. one electric, one acoustic, one bass (with a possible exception of adding one fretless at some point). this keeps my activities disciplined and honestly, for the gig I have had for the past 16 years I don't want to carry around any more that one bass and one electric so I buy, try and move them on. Nearly every instrument that I have sold in the past 2-3 years has gone to the new owner in better condition that I received them. An interesting aside is that it's made me a pretty good guitar tech, fixing stripped screws, set-ups, fret polishing, cleaning, etc. Right now I have this real itch to work with a six enough to be comfortable. I am not making any money but I am not getting killed either and I am having a blast doing it (uh, except for the packing and shipping. I still hate that) So, under my rules, the 4 goes.

But there's a weirder, zen-ish method to my madness. Very often there will be a series of events that will lead me in places that I would have never considered going. In this case there are two.

One: Peavey. I'll admit, I may have been becoming a bit of a bass snob. Gotta break that. Personal growth.

Two: 6 string. But because I took a chance on a bit of an odd piece that didn't work out for me I was made an offer. That offer led me to some research on the Cirrus. The Cirrus Club members are a persuasive bunch, you being one of them (and I know you love yourself some Cirrus. I just read your most recent post and know you're working on becoming a fleet owner). Hmmm, light goes on. Around the same time I, for the first time, have a second bulb go off as to just what the benefits of a 6 are and thought that I could figure it out. Up until that point I honestly thought they were a bit indulgent and unnecessary. I was ignorant and uninformed. Whadda you know, yet more personal growth.

So none of this happens if I don't let the road take me where it wants to. Who knows where this connects me but I am on my way to find out. I never really know how much longer I will play. I hope a long time but you never know. So why not try as many and as much as I can. All I know for certain is that if this does not work there sure a whole lot of pretty things in the classifieds every day that could flip the next switch.

I do not. It originally came with a set of Bartolini's and an Aguilar pre. The pickups were both pretty beat up from the action being set too low.

As I mentioned previously I actually have always preferred EMG's and have pulled every set of Barts from every bass that I have owned that came with them. Just not my thing. These were brand new a couple months back. I like their sound as well as their traditional look.

Now, just let me know if I can help you spend some of that paycheck...
