This is a 2006 F Bass BN5 which I bought new from the Bass Exchange in Sherman Oaks, CA.
All specs are standard:
Ash body, weight 9.7 lbs. right around where F Bass recommends.
3-piece quarter sawn Maple neck and maple fingerboard
It has the newer stack-coil humcancelling pickups.
19mm (standard) string spacing
It has a set of fresh F Bass strings and comes with a soft, padded F Bass leather strap.
Ships in original F Bass gig bag and I pack the same way F bass does, with bubble wrap inside an oversize cardboard box.
I do almost all of my practice on my BN6, so this bass has seen relatively light use. It was mainly used for gigs where the stigma of a six-string was an issue…I now own a BN6 and a VF5 and I’m a player, not a collector, so I prefer to transform this instrument into cash to pay for an instrument I actually need. THE GOOD
Low action and easy to play, minimal fret wear. Pots and tuners operate perfectly. Extremely comfortable to play. One of the most stable necks on any bass I’ve owned. Punchy sound with plenty of snap. Perfect balance on the strap. THE BAD
I had a little pick guard made by George Furlanetto attached with tape and I also put a self-adhesive plastic sheet on the back to protect agains buckle rash (there is none). Unfortunately my google search for how to remove the adhesive residue suggested acetone, which ruined the finish. F Bass will refinish a bass for $600 and a few places in LA will do it for $350, so I decided to sand off the finish
and leave the decision to refinish up to the buyer. I think it looks and feels great. If you have any doubts, feel free to request more photos.
A little ‘cap’ has come off one of the tuners, but it has been working fine for several years. Price is $2400 shipped in the ConUS.
Will consider international sales if buyer pays actual shipping cost.
I made a little video so you can hear how it sounds; recorded straight into Logic through an Avalon sp737 http://youtu.be/H4NX7KhwgGs
