FS: Lakland 55 Dual-J "Willie Weeks" Prototype

Sign in to disble this ad
Up for sale is my rare Lakland 55 Dual-J. Those of you familiar with these know how nice they are. Essentially it's a US made 55-94 with passive, instead of active, electronics.

This particular bass, finished in a very pretty trans-white, was part of a limited run that Lakland built in 1999 and 2000. They were going to market these basses as the "Willie Weeks Model" 5 string but they were never actually released.

Lakland recently started making the 55 Dual-J again in limited numbers. I have seen them going for well over $3K new. You can get this one for a whole lot less.

It's in excellent condition with just some very minor wear from being played. Excellent playability with classic jazz bass tone courtesy of it's vintage Duncan Basslines. It's also very light weight weighing in at only 8.4 lbs.

SOLD! Asking $2,195.00 shipped in it's vintage style Lakland hard shell case (No Lakland logo - Made by G&G).

NO TRADES PLEASE - I need to sell this one to pay some bills! All reasonable cash offers will be considered.

I couldn't agree more!

It's my last Lakland and I swore I would never sell it but desperate times call for desperate measures. This is a VERY sweet Lakland my friends. One of you needs to make it yours. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I just got an email from a guy who apparently knows about these basses and actually owns the original "Willie Weeks Prototype". In the interest of full disclosure here is what he had to say:

"I spoke to the former owner about it when he tried to sell it as the Willie Weeks Prototype. I thought about buying it to complement mine. Mine has a Maple board. I have the actual Willie Weeks prototype. It is serial# WWX. I have a letter of Authenticity from Dan Lakin, who I (years ago) collected/traded G&L basses and Stingrays with. Mine was made in 99. I dont know what month. Yours was probably made shortly thereafter. 1999 or 2000"

So based on this it looks like the bass is a lot older than I thought. More like 9 or 10 years old, rather than only 3. Just wanted you all to know in case it makes a difference to anyone.

Spence, I beleive these were going to be known as 55-64 basses. I may be mistaken though.

Bump for an awesome Bass made for an awesome Bassist.

Good Luck.

Too bad I can't snag this

God Bless, Ray
