FS: 2010 Fender American Deluxe 5 Jazz!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
This is one sweet bass!! I bought this new from Sweetwater. It's extremely well constructed with a super tight neck pocket. The tone is big, thick, warm, punchy, & full with a bit of bite. It sounded great stock, but I went ahead and threw in some Nordstrand NJ5F pickups and that really took this bass to the next level! It's seriously one of the top 3 jazz basses I've ever enjoyed playing, including several Mike Lulls and Sadowskys, but this one is definitely more to my preference tonally and feel-wise.

I posted some sound clips of the stock and Nordie pups in a thread a while back. Here's the URL:

Sound Clips

I'm thinking about selling, because I'm leaning more towards playing 4 strings these days and really enjoy banging around on my Fender 75 RI. I need a 5-string in my stable though, but since I have the vintage thing covered with the 75 RI I want to get a more modern sounding 5 string with a 35" scale for more variety. And I just want to try out other basses.

9.7 lbs and balances wonderfully. Just some light fingernail scratches on the pick guard from slapping.

Here's the breakdown:
- Bass new: ~$1700 (not including shipping or taxes)
- Pickups: ~$200
- Shielding Job: ~$125

Puts it around $2k altogether, I'll sell shipped with the SKB-style OHSC and including original N3 pups as well for $1500 shipped OBO! NO TRADES. These 2010 models with the blocks and binding are not easy to find right now!

Here are a few pics, mostly stock and 1 far away pic. UPDATE: MORE PICS BELOW!!

Nice looking bass, thanks for posting those clips. I actually really like the sound of those new Fender pickups. I think the Nordstrand's sound a little more focused, but the N3 pickups definitely sound like Fender should.

I really dig the necks on these newer Fender 5 strings, they feel great, bump for a great bass at a great price!

I really liked the N3 pickups, too, but the Nordies, IMO, sound fuller and less plastic or synthetic. I was surprised at how well I liked the sound of the N3s on the clips. In person, though, through an amp and speakers the Nordies are MUCH fuller, natural, warmer, and dare I say more 'pro' sounding ~> more in league with the Lulls and Sadowskys I've owned and played in the past. Love, love, love the tone! Everybody comments on it at the gig.

Great sound clips. Fender has really come up in quality recently. I have Nordstrands in several basses but according to those clips the stock pickups have more sparkle and bite than the Nordies. Since these are included, this all looks like a great deal.

Would you sell it without the Nordies?

Wow, I really prefer the Nordies in those clips. Great sound! (And the basstasters licks...perfect.)

If you decide you want to talk about trades, I have a Valenti J5 w/Nordstrand Big Singles and an Aguilar OBP-1 preamp (can be run passive as well). There's nothing I don't love about it, except I think I may prefer 34" scale and it's a 35" bass...

looks like 34", if it was 19 mm at the bridge, I'd almost want to call it the Coppolo killer

honestly, having owned basses by most of the boutique jazz guys, these Fenders(American Deluxe V and Marcus Miller V) seem much more at "home" to me. Everything about them seems very well thought out from the neck shape and body size to the rounded off heel block for easier upper register playing(can't believe everyone doesn't do this).

I agree 100%. I got a chance to play one of these, the last time I played a 5 string Fender Jazz must have been around 2002. These latest models are one of the best deals out there - asymmetrical neck, compound radius, passive option, we just heard how the new pickups sound in the soundclips...for $1500?!?

Thanks guys! I totally agree. I feel more at home with this bass than I have with any of the other 5-string jazz bass boutiques I've owned and tried. I've found I'm just a Fender guy, and these, IMO, are the best deal for quality, tone, and playability Fender has to offer. Add the Nordies and it's no contest, IMO! Someone is going to be very happy!!

34" and the string spacing is adjustable at the bridge. Not sure what they adjust to, but you can go tighter or wider than the standard 18mm spacing I currently have it set at.

Just played a gig last night with this thing and can't figure out why for the life of me I'm getting rid of it. I already know this will be the bass that I regret selling. I got so many comments last night when I picked that bass up. Sound guy loved it and so did several other musicians in the audience. So punchy and full! It's a really sweet bass that I want to go to a good home. This is going to make somebody happy!

Hi Scott

I know you have it listed FS, but thought I would ask if you would be interested in a trade of a Peavey USA Cirrus 6 Ruby Red New unit. I just purchased this about 2 month ago. If you are interested I can send pictures. You can PM me or send me email at jdouthit@bellsouth.net

Hey Jerry, I just picked up another bass, so not interested in trades. Need some cash in the bank.

Feel free to shoot me an offer!
