FS: 2012 Spector Forte 5

2 Attachment(s)
Purchased this bass from a fellow TB'er a few months back. Love the tone options, and it is the best constructed bass I've ever had, at least. I'm very fond of Spectors (I own 2 others), and it's with some regret that I'm letting this one go - but I'm making a commitment to 5'ers with wider spacing.

Going to replace it with one of the new Spectors with wider spacing at the nut, and I have plenty of others to play while I wait for this one to sell and order another Spector.

This is a 2012 Spector Forte 5, with an Aguilar OBP-3 and EMG 40P5 / 40J factory installed (normally, these come with the 2-band Aguilar and EMG 40DCs)

For those of you who aren't familiar with a Forte, it's essentially a 'no frills' version of an NS-5XL - without the crown inlays on the neck, and only available in a matte black finish. But everything else is the same as the NS-5, and it's built in the same Woodstock, NY facility by the same craftsmen. I don't use the word 'craftsmen' loosely - this is a beautifully constructed instrument, with piano-like sustain, and a very strong sounding B-string.

Word of warning - this is a 35" scale instrument, and weighs a little over 10lbs. Thankfully, the curved body along with a good quality strap makes the weight bearable.

This is currently running in an 18v configuration; can be converted easily to 9v, but the OBP-3 has a ton of headroom in 18v.

More details on the Forte can be found on Spector's site:
http://www.spectorbass.com/Forte/Forte-5.html

Bass comes with HSC.

The bad:
There are two small finish chips on the tail end of the bass; I've included a picture of them for evaluation. Price has been adjusted to reflect this.

Price: $1800.00 shipped / insured CONUS. I will accept PayPal as well as certified checks or money orders (US banks only, please).

If you're local to the metro Chicago / Milwaukee areas, I'll knock $100 off the price for a local pickup (and you can play it yourself before buying).

Note that this bass now retails for $4199 on Spector's site, and that would be without the OBP-3 or upgraded pups, which, again, you couldn't get on a new one (unless you were a repeat Spector buyer, like the original owner was).
This is a great chance to get a US-built neck-through Spector at less than half of new!

Not really interested in trades, as I'm selling this to finance another Spector - but I'll read what you'd like to trade for it. If it doesn't sell fairly quick, I'll open it up to trades with some preferences listed on my end.

Now for the pics (limit of two on this post; I can post or e-mail more if requested):

Daily bump, with more pics...

Note the bridge is routed into the body. Made of brass, just like the nut.

Again, those are solid flame maple wings - not a veneer.
Fingerboard is pau ferro.

Also shows the Aguilar stack knob for treble / bass - the mids are controllable via the adjacent knob, and have a push/pull pot for 400/800hz boost/cut. Controls are blend, volume, mid boost / cut, stacked treble/bass boost/cut

Bump - with adjusted price.

Stingray 5HH plus cash? I'm in the Chicago burbs so you could check it out too.

Reprise 03-02-2013 08:38 AM

Sorry, Bunkaroo - I'm looking for a sale, b/c I'm going to flip the funds toward a new US bolt-on in the 'wide 5' config.

Check your PM, however, for other news. Thx!

How thick is the neck front to back at the 12th fret?

Reprise 03-02-2013 05:35 PM

eo, according to the Spector site, the neck is 1.02" at the 12th fret (other measurements are there on the site).

I can say that it's certainly not a baseball bat-type neck, and many who've played Fortes say they're among the better Spector necks they've played. It's certainly comparable to a Roscoe (I have a Century Signature V with wenge, so I feel qualified to say that).

Action is very, very low, the fret edges are the smoothest I've ever felt from a manufacturer (including Roscoe), and I've never had to move the truss rod.

Now, with that being said, I have to announce...this bass is now on hold, pending payment.

You tempt me so with the roscoe reference. Good luck with the sale!

Hey, did this finally sell?

Reprise 03-07-2013 02:48 PM

Payment is in transit now, so I guess the answer to that is 'yes'. It's off to the Last Frontier (no, not 'space'...Alaska)

I take exception to the word 'finally', though - I wasn't in a rush, at least! ;)

Once it ships, I'll post the price sold and close the thread.

And for those of you saying...but it was 'shipped CONUS'... well, if you want something badly enough, you find ways ;)

That's all I'm saying for now. Although I'm a sucker for AK - if you've ever thought about visiting, go. You'll never forget it.
