FS - 35+ Year Old Bass (reduced price) $165 Shipped!

FS - 35+ year old bass.
$165.00 $140.00 shipped - CONUS.

This bass has no info or writing on it whatsoever. How do I know that it is 35+ years old?? Because it has the last set of changed Flatwound strings in the case with "Changed 8/14/78" written on the string packages , and I'll guarantee that it has had many string changes before that. I wish I knew when the bass was made , but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the early 70's or late 60's.

The bass does need new pots for the volume and tone control. I had to wiggle the volume knob around to get the bass to come through my amp , but it sounded great when it did - Very old-school. The bass actually plays pretty dang good , but I am sure that it would play better with a little adjusting (which I didn't do).

I'm more into modern than vintage myself so I decided to sell it instead of fixing it up. With some new volume pots (maybe they can be fixed??) , a better bridge (the one on it is pretty rinky-dink) , and some better looking knobs you can have a nice vintage bass for a fraction of the price of other basses of this age.

Here are some photos of the bass: (I didn't realize that the "G" string was out of the nut groove when I took the photos - The nut is in good shape)
I took photos with and without the pickup and bridge guards on. There is one more guard , but I have no idea where it goes??

Here is a photo of some of the string packages - It comes with all four of the changed strings:

It's going to cost me about $50.00 for shipping.

It comes with the original softshell form case. The case isn't in the best of shape , but it serves it's purpose.

Payment methods = Paypal or Bank Check
Thanks for looking!

Link to a thread I started about the bass.

Here is a link to a thread that I started about the bass a few days ago. I'd like to see this vintage bass go to someone who will fix it up and show it a little love.

Unknown nameless bass??

Just checking, do you know if it's a 34" scale? (In case you're not sure, measure from the nut to the point the strings sit on the saddles.)

More photos

I've been messaged by a few people asking lots of questions about the bass. One guy even wanted to know the distance the strings vibrate when struck?? You got me on that one!
Unfortunately I've never been into bass specs. Either I like how a bass plays or I don't. So that said - I'm not knowledgeable about how to measure the specs of a bass.

I don't have a very accurate scale , so I weighed myself and then I weighed myself with the bass. I was actually lighter with the bass on!! Just kidding!!
I weighed about 9 1/2 pounds more with the bass on.

As far as the neck goes - it looks straight , but I am no expert on necks. If I think I need a neck adjustment I take my basses to my tech.

For string spacing and scale length I took some photos that may help. Here they are:

Here is a close up photo of the pick up.

I listed a Skjold and a Stambaugh on the talkbass classifieds and this bass has had the most questions asked about it. I just wish I knew how to answer the questions better. I hope these new photos help some.
Thanks for all of the PM's!

The bridge and pick-up covers are worth $20 and the case another $20. I'd pick this up just to complete my P -Bass.

...but I'd probably end up fixing this one and would still need a bridge cover, etc. for mine,

Price Drop - Again!!

Price dropped to $140.00 SHIPPED because I'm sick of answering questions and trying to measure specs on this bass!!

For this price - even if you don't like it you can pull it out at the end of a gig and pull a Jimi Hendrix with it and light it on fire , or pretend that you are in the who and smash it after your last song (even though I don't think John ever smashed his bass - it was the other guys in the band who broke their instruments)!!

I'd prefer if some bought it and fixed it up and showed it some love , but I'm just sayin'...

Gah this is exactly what I'm looking for but I need to save up for a new fretless, surprised no one's on this yet, old cooky basses are the best.

I have a few people interested (tire kicking) , but no one has pulled the trigger on it yet.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this bass dates back to the 60's. This bass has had lots of use prior to it's last string change in 1978.

Action and Truss Rod

I had a question about the action and the truss rod.

I will admit the action isn't low , but it is playable. It measures at about 7/32" ( a little under 1/4") at the 12th fret.

This can probably be lowered with a proper set up and neck adjustment. If 1978 was the last time the strings were changed - who knows when the last time it was set up or had a neck adjustment.

If an adjustment doesn't get the action where you need it to be I'm sure a new bridge or shimming the neck a tad would get you to the string height that you prefer. I'm no expert by any means - it's just a suggestion.

As far as the truss rod goes - I never messed with it or opened the cover to it. I don't even touch the truss rods on my Pedullas - I leave that to my bass tech.

That about answers most of the questions that I have had ( to the best of my ability anyways!).

Sold Pending Payment

It looks like the bass is sold pending payment to a fellow Wisconsinite. We are going to hook up next weekend to save on shipping.

Why does anyone need more than one bass anyways?? You can only play one at a time - Unless you are Micheal Manring.

JK - I know it's nice to have a couple of basses to achieve different tones and for playing different styles of music.
I'm very happy with my 4 string fretted Pedulla Thunderbass and my 4 string Fret-less Pedulla Thunderbuzz. They cover everything that I need to do with the style of music that I play.
