Acquired this KSD Proto-J (35" scale, 10.6 lbs) recently here on TB and to be honest, the bass needed a bit of work to become playable. Had to relocate the tree tension bar (see headstock pic) because the screws had been placed too tight and stripped the drill holes. It is above the low B but that string remains tight, not effected.
Also took it to Peter Stokes at Broken Neck Guitar Repair in Boston, and for $200 he releveled the fretboard and put a new bone nut in. Now it actually plays very well, with low action.
I know people have complained about the pre-amp, but this thing really has a great tone, very deep. To get an idea of what she sounds like, listen with good headphones (or something other than computer speakers) to the short sound clip (see far below the pics) playing along to a pop song, and recorded direct onto my computer.
