This bass is dope. I went through a fretless phase a few years ago and this is the greatest fretless to this day I have ever played or owned, and I've owned some great ones. Unfortunately, I just don't do any work on fretless these days so it's got no use collecting dust. So here's what I know about the bass:
In 1969, some guy placed a custom order with Fender for a fretless P-bass with an "A", or jazz bass (1.5" at the nut) neck. Since Fender didn't start making factory fretless necks until 1970, this neck could be one of the first fretless necks Fender ever made. And it plays like absolute butter!! Jaco would absolutely have killed for this neck! The tuners are also original 1969. I bought the neck from the original owner on Craigslist many years ago in NYC. He had parted the bass thinking he could get more money even though I thought he definitely could have gotten more for the whole thing in one piece! The body was given to me by a friend and is supposedly a Fender P-bass body from the late 90s. By the time I got it it had been refinished in this awesome honey maple varnish that really allows the bass to vibrate. Acoustically, it's the loudest electric I've ever played! The pickups were custom wound '69s by Lindy Fralin and are slightly overwound, and the bridge is a Gotoh. Other than that, the bass speaks for itself. $1500 shipped. I'll even send it in a hardshell Fender case! Thanks for looking!!

Weight?
Are you positive the nut width is 1.5"?
What about the mwah department?
Low action and truss rod working fine?

The bass is SUPER light....I don't have a scale to weigh it but I'm going to guess it's in the 6-7 lb. range. The nut width is most definitely the same as a jazz bass. The action is godly and the truss is perfect and has never needed to be adjusted as long as I have owned it! It really is an amazing bass and after playing it for a couple of hours last night I'm starting to have second thoughts.... |

I kept checking it out, but the neck seemed to be the only Fender part on it. Still looks to be a great player and has undeniable mojo. |
