This is a vintage Yamaha BB-800 with the older "pre-import" headstock logo. It has lots of honest wear and there's good reason as it plays and sounds great.
It is difficult to determine precisely what year this bass was built because most of the pre-import basses that were made in Japan do not show up when you put their serial numbers into Yamaha's online serial number dating tool. This bass is no exception. My experience with these early BB series basses has shown that the pre-import basses with this headstock logo were made between 1975 and 1978. My recollection is that they guy I got this bass from said it was from 1976.
Recently setup with a new set of Elixirs, this is the original "P-Bass Killer" with Yamaha's reverse split pickup. Lot's of old school charm and grace here! This bass is meant to be played............
Will ship with it's original Yamaha gig bag which looks like it's never been used.
$475.00 shipped in the CONUS
Reasonable cash offers or trades will be considered!
*** It has been brought to my attention that this bass is more likely a non-import model (intended for the Japanese market) that was built in 1981 rather than in the late 1970's. The serial number seems to support this! ***
I am drowning in drool right now. My BB300 just fits my budget better.....
Damn fun job with crappy pay.
It's similar to a BB-300 just a bit better built with a more vintage vibe. Most, if not all, of the BB-300 basses were built in Taiwan. This bass is much older and was built in Japan at Yamaha's premier bass building factory. There is just something about the Yamaha basses that came from Japan in the 1970's. They were built to very high standards with absolutely the best materials available. You can tell when you play one!
