Recent financial difficulties have forced me, with a very heavy heart, to sell some of my basses.
Up for sale is a 74 Jazz Bass. The serial number dates it to a 72, but the other features (maple neck with MOP markers, three bolt, pots, etc.) date it to a 74.
Features and facts:
Pots date it to a 74 (1377438, 38th week of 1974)
No neck date stamp
All original - I have the original pick guard, but some miscreant painted on it (i will include)
Original case
Bell cover, PUP cover
Tons of mojo!
Seriously, I call it mojo, but the wear is body/paint only. The front/top wear mark actually some finish over it. Structurally the bass is great. Phenominal player, great neck, sounds just killer, and I mean killer. NAILS that classic mid-70's J-Bass tone. Three bolt, and light for a mid-70's J. Really a killer bass; this is a seriously cool bass.
I have more pics in higher def if any serious buyers would like to see them.
Asking $2250, buyer pays shipping. Located in Seattle area, anyone local is welcome to stop by and try it out. I would be interested in trades if cash is involved. Particularly interested in a Sadowsky Will Lee with a non-Maple board and lightweight amps and cabs. Hit me up if you have anything else you may want try.

"The three-bolt neck plate, introduced on the Telecaster Bass in 1972 and later on the Jazz Bass in 1974, maintained both the large "F" and the serial number above it. The three-bolt continued until 1981, but the serial number was moved to the headcap in 1976."
Could we get a picture of the neck plate, perhaps?

I assumed they took a neck plate from a 72 Telecaster bass and slapped it on a J Bass when they first started doing 3-bolt J Basses.
I have the same book, which is where I got the rest of the info on dating it.
Interestingly enough, the guy that sold it to me tried to pass it off as a 72 (but I knew better).

But this does indeed look to be a '74. If I didn't just get a J, I'd be all over this as I'm a sucker for black and maple. Good luck with the sale.
