SOLD!
Up for sale is my trusty '81 Fender USA Precision special in Candy Apple Red.
This was my my go-to four-string for over two years.
But now that my regular gig requires a 5-string only, it gets no love, and that's a shame!.
Obviously broken-in, "all-natural" relic-ing and sporting mucho mojo, it plays, feels, and sounds just great.
An interesting bit of Fender history here as well:
This was Fender's first foray into active basses back then.
I suspect they didn't want to come up short in the market, and their engineering and execution shows.
Great-sounding pre-amp (can run passive as well), solid brass bridge made by Schaller, as are the tuners, neck plate, strap buttons, and knobs, excellent P-neck, classy matching headstock, all in all, a great package.
Beware, this is no lightweight, at least 10 lbs (that's a big hunk of brass there!).
Only made for three years, from '80 to '82 I believe, so they only show up for sale once in a while, and don't last long when they do.
I've never had any issues, this bass was built to last, for sure.
Everything works: truss rod, pre-amp, etc. etc.
If you are looking for massive thump, this bass delivers and then some, the pre-amp rocks!
I have perked up the ears of more than one jaded sound guy after plugging in this guy, believe it.
These come up for sale so rarely I'm not sure how to price this but let's say $1200.00 OBO plus actual shipping to start with, and we'll see how it goes.
No trades please, Paypal is welcome!
Sorry for the crappy pics (all I have).
