FS: '82 G&L L-2000 E; lightweight, lawsuit headstock & black hardware
I've been on a G&L kick since I picked this up last year, and having determined that El Toro works better for me right now (and not having funds for more than a couple basses), I need to find a new home for this "beast of the low end". It's a lightweight (9lbs 4 oz on my digital scale) vintage G&L with transition features (lawsuit headstock & black crinkle hardware); serial number B009xxx. Playability is very good (fret cleanup 6 months ago; wore flats a lot), and it feels great. The finish was originally trans blue or blue/green but it's faded darker; it acts chameleon depending on the light - sometimes it looks solid black, sometimes trans dark blue-green. The paint is very checked; I think this looks cool, you can judge from the pics (I'll note that it is not flaking off at all). Wear that indicates it has been enjoyed, just as a great bass should be. Nice grain under the paint; probably swamp ash. The neck is the first generation L series one-piece maple, 1 5/8" at the nut. The only modifications are strap locks.
Full disclosure:
I think the nut has a crack, but it is very stable and fully functional.
The original case is included but but the handle, latch, and two feet are broke/missing, so it's only good for storage & shipping.
The pre-amp seems to act like a distortion/fuzz unit. I thought this was per design because it sounds great, but the one El Toro I have with a functional pre is pretty clean. I prefer the distortion (I will likely swap the dead pre in my other El Toro for somdthing like this L2K has), but I am that sort. Perhaps someone else will comment on early L2K pre's... I've very rarely used onboard pre-amps. UPDATE: I think this is working properly, and that it's simply pushes my practice amps' pres into distortion. When I turn the bass down and then turn on the pre, it just does a clean boost. I hope other vintage L2K players will comment here...
I think all the electronics are original and have put pics up at the photobucket link. All other electronics work as expected for an L2K-E and are in great condition.
$850 shipped to the lower 48, or $800 if you cover shipping & handling. No trades, thank you.
Here are about 20,000 words worth of pics:
