FS: '84 Ibanez Roadstar II (made in Japan)

Thinking of selling my Roadstar II. It's black and maple, and I had a custom black/white/black pickguard made for it by Chandler which cost over $60 by itself. The pickups are the original Ibanez ones, but I put cream-colored covers over them. I also added cream-colored "volume" and "tone" push-on knobs. I am including the original white pickguard as well as some over-sized black plastic knobs (set screw kind) - both shown, wrapped in plastic, in the pics below. The body and neck have plenty of "mojo." Body has chips and dings and neck has worn edges and a few divots/dings. Chrome is pitted in places, mostly the bridge - tuners are still pretty shiny. Frets are worn - but still have life left - but I was planning on using flatwounds to maximize their remaining lifespan. The bass is currently strung with some fairly new roundwounds - not sure of the gauge but probably 45-105. I personally think all the mojo looks cool. My guitar player Gregg and I spent 2 hours tonight working on this bass. Gregg put in a new bridge ground wire and a new jack. He soldered in brand new Alpha 500k volume and tone pots as well as a tone capacitor. He drilled the Chandler pickguard to accommodate the pots. He also set up and intonated the bass. While he was doing all the hard stuff, I cleaned the bass thoroughly with a soft buffing cloth. While the mojo is still very much there, it's now... shinier mojo.

Weight is about 8 lbs - maybe less. My digital scale says 7.6 but I question its accuracy... at least when I weight myself
Nut width is 1.5"

For all pics, including mojo, click here.

Tweed case NOT included, sorry. If you're interested I'd do $175 + shipping (lower 48.) I don't have a hard case to spare, but it will be packed well and I can put it in a thin gig bag for a little extra travel protection.

Peace,
-Tim

Awesome price. If I didn't have my Musician that could do passive P I'd be grabbing this up. This is an incredible value for an awesome bass

+1. Sweet deal for sure! If I wasn't runnin' so deep in the GAS tank, this never would have made it to the classifieds. Alas, too many basses.

WHAAAT! How is this still here... It taunts me! I'm in the grip of serious GAS here! Perhaps it's time to move out a couple of basses and alleviate the pains...

Hahah I know man. After we put it together last night and got the black pickguard on with the creme pickups/knobs, and I got to play it a bit, I wouldn't be heartbroken if I had to keep it. However, with TEN, yes TEN other basses...I can't really justify #11 (let alone 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, and probably 4.)

It thumps just like a Fender P. I prefer it with the tone rolled almost all the way off. It now sounds a million times better than when I bought it (it arrived with rusted strings and crackly pots.)

Holy crap, what a deal on a great bass.

Ok kids, this is a really GOOD bass, made in Japan, when the Japanese quality was seriously better than USA stuff. Ibby had the Fender contract for MIJ back then. Only problem was that the MIJ's were better than the US stuff.

You can get this for less than a crappy Indo or China made bass and it will sound awesome.

These 80's Ibby's are the best value in the used market.

Free plug for a great bass. I have a Roadster 84, I know.

You are going to regret selling it, but hopefully it will go to someone that will really appreciate it.

Everything thor said.

People rave about MIJ fenders and love to pay 500-800$ for them, these roadstars are as good or better and honestly i think there body style is sexier, its less "tubby".

Your not going to regret this one.

Also to the future owner i really could use a pickguard so if you wanna sell me one of them , id appreciate it

I had the black pickguard custom made by Chandler - they did an amazing job, but it set me back about $60.

Echo everything positive. Has anyone else mentioned how light these babies are? These are great basses for anyone with back/shoulder problems. If my GAS funds weren't tied up 8 ways to Sunday for the next 6 weeks, this would be mine... And I already have 5 with one more planned for January! (yeah, I kinda have a collection going ) Maybe the fat man in the red suit will drop a couple extra bills in my stocking...

Someone needs to buy this soon. It's a sweet little bass... I would love to keep it but I just can't justify 11 basses.

It pains me that I have to buy people Christmas gifts instead of this. An official "my wife would slit my throat and dump me in the river" bump.
