FS: '85 G&L SB-1 $700/shipped/insured

Sign in to disble this ad
- This is one great USA made G&L that has served me well for many years!
- 1985 with original Schaller pups
- All original with the exception of the pickguard, this was replaced about 3yrs ago and looks great today!
- Perfect working condition.
- The neck back is sanded and oiled, it's like butta! (I do this to all of my players and am completely addicted to the feel) 1-5/8" at the nut.
- Body has just a couple of tiny and one sizable ding that is visible in pics; IMO 7.5/10
- 9/lbs
- very nice padded tweed Fender gig bag.
- $700/shipped/insured
- No Trades!

A few have inquired about the Schaller pup, which have adjustable pole pieces vs. traditional as seen in the pics.

The photos were taken at a time when I had a Fralin P in it. The original Schaller I found much more even across the strings as well as more full through the mid range and has been back in the bass for some time.

I'm with ya on the Oil/Wax necks. I've been doing it to my basses since I owned a 90 SR5 with the killer neck finish.

Bass is on hold!

Yeah, my first MM Sterling turned me on to it and I've had it done to 8 basses since. My tech has it down to a fine science at this point and I am completely addicted to the feel.

To each his own, of course, but I can barely play a glossy finish today and when I do I think to myself, guy's don't know what they're missing!

Nice. These didn't have MFD pickups?

From what I understand, G&L guru's feel free to correct, this was the Schaller PBX early in '85, which was in part designed by Leo and has the adjustable pole pieces just like the MFD design.

This a great P bass representative and ready to move, let's deal!

I don't know what part Leo had in the design (he was a pretty particular guy, or so I understand, so it's quite possible he had strict specs for the manufacturer), but yes, the Schaller was stock in '85 and early '86 (I had one like this dated 4/86) as Leo hadn't completed the design for the split coil MFD yet.

These basses are fantastic sounding. The Schaller lends a little more vintage vibe to the tone, I think, but the output rivals that of the MFD. Plus, the G&L 1 5/8" SB neck profile is my favorite of all time.

Great looking bass bump!

Thanks Mad, you nailed the sound profile and I agree completely with G&L 1 5/8" being my all-time fav!
