FS: '89 Kubicki Ex-Factor - MINT!

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought this a few months ago from a guy on Craigslist who told me it was his ex-wife's bass when she was in a band many years ago. She played it about 6 times then stored in in it's hardshell case in a closet. Low and behold about 20 years later, I was able to snag it.

It is with heavy heart I let this go, but I have other needs at the moment and this incredibly kept bass is the "low man on the totem pole".

The paint is black, however in some light it looks dark green. I'm not sure of the color's name. It was absolutely built by Phil Kubicki and has the 18V preamp with the 6-position selector. These basses are notorious for rust forming on fasteners and the bridge assembly, yet this bass doesn't have any of it. There is no noticable fretwear and the spring for the D-lever is still very stiff, a true testament as to how little this bass was played.

Serial number is 1909-12-89 and it does have the FCS logo.

If you need more pics than the one below, please PM me and describe what angles you would like and I'll post them as requested.

I'm asking $1,850 shipped. You will not find a "transitional" Ex-Factor in better shape. If it doesn't sell, I'm just going to post it on eBay where I've seen these sell just over $2k in some cases.

I'll ship this in the original Kubicki hard shell case, which is also in mint condition.

Here's a pics when I changed the strings. You have a clearer shot at the body, fretboard and neck.

Never thought you would put it up. However, I remember how much you paid for it. ;-)

Did you change the strap buttons?

Ah... Good point. Yes I replaced the top button with a Duncan straplock pin, then added a new button at the bottom retaining the original button on the tuning assembly. The new owner will receive the original buttons.

Still available... posted more pics above. I'll probably keep it here until the end of the week, then it's off to the 'bay.

hey AJ! Just to clarify, you added a button to the bottom? I'll have to look at the pix, but where exactly did you place it?

tom

Hey Tom, On the last picture above, you can see it on the left. It balances nicely.

I used a Sony DSC-V1, macro-mode for most.

I'd like to take a shot at this and offer $1200. It's all that I can afford (and that's kinda pushing it). I always wanted to get a Kubicki, but I couldn't afford one. As time went on, the prices kept going up so I still can't afford (a new) one today. I guess this is my best chance at getting a "new" one.
