Arrow FS: '98 Fender Jazz MIA Oly Wht w/UPGRADES!

Sign in to disble this ad
******SOLD!******

UPGRADES:
pickups: stock pickups replaced with a set of Lindy Fralins. the bass sounds beautiful and warm... a vintage tone with the right kind of bite.

bridge: stock bridge replaced with Badass II. much easier to intonate and a little more sustain.

neck: the finish on the back of the neck has been delicately sanded off. this bass is a quick player.

times are tough, folks. the only reason i'm selling this is to cover some bills. i'm truly saddened by the fact that i have to let this baby go... but i'm hoping it can find as good a home as it's had with me.

EDIT 11/3/11... pictures added: honestly, i'd forgotten there's a scratch and a bit of a unique sanding job. i've had this bass in the case for a month or so. my apologies for not mentioning it earlier. in any case... the sanding is not perfect to the eye. it feels perfectly smooth and was done with fine grit sandpaper, but i left some of the finish on... simply because i like the way it looks. the scratch is on the back near the bridge. it's noticeable... if you're looking at the back the bass.

the finish looks whiter in the pictures than it does in real life. it's got that nice vintage custard white color.

nice hardshell case included. not the original... it's a black tolex Yamaha case.

$850 shipped.

For me. Its the big scratch on the back near the string holes+ the sand job on the back. If you lower the price a bill id bet youd have more fish on the line. Know id pick it up if the price was reduced a bit.

thanks for the input!

i was thinking that was a fair price, especially considering the upgrades (Fralins, Badass II... that's $250 right there)... and the fact that if you had this J in your hands you probably wouldn't even notice the scratch and sand job...

...but i hear ya.

WOW!

You did a beautiful job with the pics - great angles and lighting.
Congrats.

This looks like a really nice deal and a beautiful bass.
It's times like this when I wish I "needed" another bass!
I'd grab this one for sure!

The scratch in the back is obviously an accidental scrape which is
a lot better than some I've seen that have been dropped several times
and have giant chunks of finish missing down to the wood.
Plus it's in the back and not visible onstage so no issue there.

The Fralins and Badass II really spice up the deal as well as the extra pickguard & tuners & knobs. Nice.

Since the neck is sanded, I'd probably take advantage of the situation and sand it down some more
to make it thinner (I like thin necks) and then rattle-can spray it with clear urethane or Krylon
several times - then fine sand it to a satin finish. It's an easy job and looks great. Voila! a Custom neck job.

With the HSC thrown in, all at a price that's super, somebody will be getting a real deal IMHO.

PS - No - I don't know the seller - and this is not a paid commercial. I'm just in a "talky mood" this morning and spotted this great bass for sale.

Good luck with the sale!

PM responded to.

and... thanks, THORRR! it really is a beautiful bass, and i'm sad to see it go. i had sold all my basses but my favorite three (two jazzes and my first ever bass, an Ibanez)... it's a little heartbreaking to let this one go. but, sometimes a man must make sacrifices for his family, y'know?

anyway, thanks again. i really do think it is a sweet deal. i'm leaving it up to the buyer to do what they want to the neck. my only concern in sanding it down was to get the finish off, not make the neck thinner. i just like an unfinished neck.
and, for the sake of clarity: i'm including a white pickguard, but not the original knobs (which i don't have. if i did, i'd include them, natch). i put the Allparts barrel knobs on there because they are very comfortable to use and because i think they look mighty cool in contrast. as far as the tuners go, they were there when i bought the bass. i have no idea if they're the original tuners or not... i assume they are. an expert on late 90s era MIA jazzes would be better qualified to inform us regarding that. i can tell you that they are solid and dependable and work flawlessly.

oh, and the scratch on the back is not deep. there are no big dings or drops on the bass. the scratch isn't even all the way through the finish, and i'm sure it could be fixed up to looks all perfect again. it just never bothered me since i rarely even saw it.
