Post FS: Abasses Jade Bass - rare

Sign in to disble this ad
I've decided to put the feelers out for selling my Sunburst Quilted Maple Jade bass. I purchased this bass new in 2000. It got me through my career at Berklee and then was relegated to the closet after I lost interest in playing bass all together. Now for the details:

34" scale
Lane Poor Jazz pickups
18 volt Aguilar OBP 1 pre-amp
Rosewood Fretboard

I think anyone who has played one of these can appreciate how buttery smooth the neck plays. The tone is very clean with the Lane Poor pickups. Overall the bass is in excellent condition and has spent it's life severely underplayed. You'll notice one chip in the finish on the back of the bass by the neck plate.

I'm including a high quality and heavily padded Mooradian gig bag. The bass is located in Central Connecticut. I would prefer a local sale but will ship to CONUS for $35. Asking $1400 OBO. All reasonable offers will be entertained.
I would consider a yamaha TRB series 5 string (possibly something with that same smooth jazz loving tone) in trade.
Please see my photobucket album for pictures: Jade Bass pictures by Bens87tr - Photobucket

Absolutely killin' basses! The A bass I owned held a candle to the better vintage Jazz basses I hold as yardsticks... Better than any other- Albey is serious about a neck feel... INCREDIBLE!!! Amazing low price for handmade USA considering the offshore Lakland counterparts...

These are incredible. As has been said, the necks are really special. Albey really knew what he was doing. Incredible price for what I'm sure is an incredible bass.

These are wonderful basses.
Albey is a real pro and a wonderful player.
These bass are top of the line.
It a shame he chose not to build anymore.

He must be... I saw a reference that he was to begin building again some time ago in probably Bass Player (which I have not read regularly for a while...). If a person had time, they should check some of Albey's playing out. Out there in a harmolodic, Ornette Coleman kind of way... Influential- more so than, for me, Dann Glenn's back when I was looking to get a Hotwires bass like his "Venus" version (which was sold and now owned by someone else).

Google: A Basses

As presented, Albey apprenticed with a violin restorer for three years as a background to his neck finishing...

He's doing one-off bass building now, using parts he has lying around from the A-Basses days...which is basically how I got my 2011 custom. That said, last time I spoke with him, in August 2011, he was talking about having something back online circa late 2011 or early 2012. I truly hope he does...he's one of the most talented bassists I've met and one of the nicest guys I've met in the industry. The world needs more dudes like him.

Surely everyone knows already- these are the basses the Lakland DJ (Darryl Jones) basses are "based" on as Darryl Jones was an A Bass player from long ago. Ever seen the Hartke ad with his Balgochian fretless?
