This is a great example of Dan Atkinson's work. He makes his basses using the best sourced components (necks, bodies, pickups, etc.) finishes the bodies and necks, assembles the basses and sells them at a fraction of the cost of other American made custom basses.
This one has a lightweight ash body, covered in a rich butterscotch nitrocellulose finish (not the typical poly finish on most basses), which shows the lovely grain of the body. The neck and headstock is maple and has a nitro finish (satin feel, in between a shinny lacquer finished and a bare wood oil/wax finish neck).
Other hardware includes lightweight hipshot tuners and a solid GOTOH bridge for lots of sustain, and an old-school vintage white pickguard.
This bass features Dimarzio P and J pickups, excellent passive tone (I just found I prefer Active P/
Js)
Controls are Volume/Tone, with a pickup selector toggle (P-only, Mixed P/J, J only).
The blend of the two is really great.
Currently strung with brand-new Ernie Ball flatwound strings which provide even a more vintage vibe.
No major dings to speak of, the back has a few very minor scratches/player wear, none that go thru the finish.
The bass weighs about 8 lbs and buyer has a choice of getting it shipped in a brand-new SKB hard case
($800 shipped ) or standard-issue padded gig-bag
($750 shipped). Paypal is preferred.
You won't find a better-made used Made in USA P/J for $800 anywhere.
Price is firm including shipping to lower 48 states (no international shipping), and remember to let me know whether you want the hard case or gig bag.
