Greetings,
As much as I enjoy this bass, it's just not getting the play time that it deserves. Since getting my Lakland, I've come to realize that Jazz basses suit my needs much better. I'll probably regret getting rid of this but I can't justify holding onto it at this point.
This is my Atkinson Precision, built by Dan Atkinson in September of 2009. Here's a brief rundown of what I know about the parts. I believe the body and neck came from AllParts but I'd have to contact Dan and verify that. I didn't have very strict specifications when I had him build this, I was mostly trying to get a quality Precision with the blocked/bound neck (mission accomplished!).
- Olympic White nitro finish
- Alder body
- Jazz profile neck; vintage tinted maple neck, darkened rosewood, blocks and binding
- Seymour Duncan SPB-2 Hot for P Bass
- Gotoh 201 bridge
- Roughly 9 pounds on the bathroom scale
I don't have a scale available to check the weight of this and I'm really bad at estimating. It's definitely lighter than my Lakland Skyline DJ4, which is about the only point of reference that I have. I'll see if I can find a way to weigh it since a lot of players are picky when it comes to that.
I'll also get in touch with Dan and try to find out more about the body wood.
This bass is in good condition but it does have a couple of slight imperfections. They're mostly limited to the back of the body and around the edge. They're not major, by any means, but, for the sake of disclosure, I took some pictures. The biggest flaw is that it looks like the strap pin (if that's the correct term) at the bottom of the bass was relocated. There's an extra hole. I actually didn't notice it at all until I started taking pictures and examining the bass.
Here are some pictures that I took with my Blackberry. The first one is the picture Dan sent to me before he shipped the bass out. I apologize for using a phone to snap these shots; I don't have a digital camera at my apartment.
You'll notice three weird spots that show up in all of the pictures that I took. There must have been some junk on the lens because they're static and in every picture. They're not blemishes in the finish. I should have wiped off my phone before taking the pictures.
I'll start the price at
$575 shipped and insured via FedEx Ground. PayPal is preferred. I don't currently have a case for it but I've been meaning to swing by the local music store and pick something up. It won't be anything special, probably just one of the cheap bags. I just want something extra to protect the finish during transit.
I'm not really looking for trades since I'm saving up for a new Jazz bass. A Fender American Vintage '62 Jazz Reissue (I'd provide cash to make up the difference in value, of course) is about the only trade that would get my attention. It's a long shot but I'll throw it out there.
I'll work on getting better pictures and more details about the wood. I will also try to weigh the bass.
Thanks for looking, guys!
