This is the first version of Yamaha's BB 5000 from the mid-80's with a yamaha hard case.
The Japanese built bass is a maple/mahogany neck thru with alder wings and madagascar ebony fingerboard. All gold/brass parts, MOP oval inlays. VERY well built, the first 'off the shelf' five string.
The original 5000 was essentially a BB3000 four-string 'subdivided' for five strings. Yamaha engineered the first 3+2 P pickup, added a five-string bridge and nut, and went to a 4+1 headstock. The 3000 blade neck pickup was retained, as well as the control set vol/tone/pickup switch, passive electronics
The bass is a player it has a few scrapes and dings as well as worn hardware. I have tried to highlight the obvious ones. The hardware could use a good polishing. There are no structural problems with the instrument at all it plays and sounds great. The only issues that I am aware of is a chip at the top of the headstock and a loose slightly bent tuning key on the treble side. The key holds the string in tune. There is a special wrench that will tighten the sleeve on the tuner but, I have been able to locate one, I will ship a replacement key along with the bass to the winning bidder.
