FS: Boogie Bodies John Paul Jones Custom Bass

This is a GREAT bass. Only one of these to exist as well. This bass was custom ordered by John Paul Jones in 1985. Unfortunately for Boogie Bodies, he never picked it up. It was eventually picked up by Sly Stone, and it remained in his band until I bought it about 7 years ago.

It has a SOLID macassar ebony neck with a gaboon ebony fingerboard. This gives it unbelievable sustain and clarity, similar to a Modulus neck though much, much warmer sounding and a very focused fundamental tone. This neck is attached to a chambered zebrawood body, which really adds to this bass's rich, punchy tone while cutting down on overall weight (comes in right about at 10 lbs). john Paul really knew what he was doing when he ordered it!

Active EMG pickups. They are original as is all else on this beast. I added the decal on the headstock as I thought it needed something there, but it can easily be removed if it is not your thing. It's just a waterslide.

What else... the neck has a jazz bass width at the nut with a comfy V profile. Full scale, with an easy reach to the first fret. I think the neck might be set into the body a bit more than a standard P bass as it is a short reach to the nut - really comfy, reminiscent to some short scale basses.

There is some damage to the lower bout, but it has been repaired. Looks like it may have been dropped somewhere along the line. Check the pics - purely cosmetic. There are signs of wear and tear - scratches, a few nicks - but it is to be expected. This bass was played a lot while it was in Sly's band and for good reason - it is a wonderful bass.

I hate to sell it, but I must pay for a fretless I had to buy for some work recently.

$950/b.o, shipping included. Here's a link to all the pictures. Click on thumbnails to take you to the full size photos. Any questions? Don't hesitate to ask!

A bit, but not bad. It likes to hang about parallel to the ground. I use a padded comfort strap with it and have always found it comfortable to play.
