These are simply amazing. My mate is endorsing them right now and he swears up and down on em. He's endorsed Fender and Warrior as well and these are where it's at according to him, and he can seriously lay it down. Played a few of his and they are sick. I'm considering replacing my NYC Sadowksy with one!!!

Why?

Just kidding, but between the two I'd go alder. This is a pretty sexy bass...

Wow, lotsa SB's showing up in the F/S forum lately. I believe the Gold finish isn't even offered on this model for 2011 so it's even more unique.

Good luck with you sale. These things are incredible.

I am a firm believer in Alder over Ash and I play Gospel, R&B, Funk, and Jazz. This bass gives you that Marcus Miller sound without the weight of Ash or the "harsh" tone of ash. This bass is great for finger style, slapping, and muted techniques (am sure it would be great with a pick too, but I have never tried it).

To me Alder is a more vocal wood with a more even response. It sounds more musical than Ash. It cuts through the mix yet blends well with the other instruments.

Oh I totally agree. My question was directed at the gent who specifically would have bought this bass if it was ash

He's right... the only real reason for wanting ash is that it is usually lighter in weight.

But this bass weighs only 8.5 - 9 lbs as is (which is super light).

If I had the dough this thread would be closed now.

Because I already own an alder/maple jazz bass so I would like an ash one so I can decide for myself if alder or ash is my tone.

The scale length is 34. The string spacing is the standard 4 string spacing which I believe is 19mm.

Hope this helps.

Video of the Carvin SB5000

Here is a link of Sean Michael Ray playing his gold SB4000.

These basses have identical specs and sound very similar. Check out the link.

Free bump for my man Kraig!

I have personally played this beast, and it is incredible. I know, I know, people always post this kinda stuff in these threads but this bass really is the real deal - if you are on the fence about it, get on it...you will be happy with your purchase. Awesome slap tone, really great tones from the bridge pickup super fat. Really well balanced, not much more to say other than this is the best bass you will get at 1K.
