UPDATE: Clement is now sold for $1495.

Circumstances require that I throw these two basses up for sale. The first is a Clement fretless five string #270. Tom is probably going to disown me for this but, it needs to be done. I flew down to Daytona to pick this bass up and had a great time spending the day with Tom at his place. His wood room is like a candy store. I will be buying from him again at some point.

Here are the specs:
34" scale (his website has a typo on this)
19mm string spacing
Lined fretless dymond wood finger board
Burled redwood top
Limba body wings with a maple tone block
Maple neck
Nordstrand fat stacks with coil switch
Bartolini 5.2 preamp (Vol, Blend, T, M(P/P), B)
Dymond wood ramp (attached with double-sided tape)
9.4 pounds

Between the pups are a few very fine indentations from my fingernail from when I removed the ramp. I really couldn't get a good shot of it because it is barely noticeable. With the ramp in place it would be underneath. Just putting that out there for full disclosure.

The second bass was built by Ray Simonetti. It is a one of a kind fretted five string. When he built this for me he broke the pattern so one could never be made just like it. This bass is incredibly light and a tone monster.

Back in the beginning of the year I had Ray do a major upgrade to the bass. It had a complete refret, refinish, new pups and pre. This upgrade cost $600 alone. The pickups are two dual coil humbuckers custom built by Ray and they each have their own coil switch. From growly jazz to modern hi-fi, this bass does it all.

Specs:
34"
17.5mm string spacing (single string bridges)
Stainless steel frets
Cherry body wings
Three piece cherry neck
Rosewood fret board
Maccasar ebony headstock plate
Bocote pickup cover with bubinga sides
Bocote cavity covers
Simonetti dual coils
Audere four-band preamp with Z-mode switch
7 pounds on the bathroom scale

The control layout is Vol, Blend, B/T, Hi/Lo Mid
The switches are Coil Tap, Coil Tap, Z-Mode, Active/Passive

Prices:
Clement: $1495 SOLD!!!

Simonetti: $1200 shipped $1050
(No trades please, reasonable offers welcome)

I live just south of Atlanta and local deals are welcome. Also, I'd be willing to negotiate for me to hand-deliver at your nearest major airport (Eastern and Central time zones) and skip the unknowns of shipping. This is of course dependent on our schedules but, it is very easy for me to get most anywhere in the country. West coast would be difficult due to the fact that I can't do the round-trip in a single day.

Thanks for looking everyone and I will answer any questions you have.

How does the Clement sound?

How is the fretless mojo, and what do you expect the effect of the diamondwood is on the overall tone? With the pickup so close to the bridge and that composite board I worry a bit of too "hard" of a sound.

Wow, it looks great!

Cheers.

The bridge pickup is in the 70's position roughly giving it a more burpy tone when that one is soloed. Blend in the neck pickup and it rounds the whole thing out. With the neck soloed you can get a nice woody P sound just fine.

I leave the treble flat or just slightly boosted and that keeps the dymond wood mellow. If the treble is boosted more as well as the mid (and knob pulled out) this bass gets very aggressive. When I had this bass built I wanted it to be as versatile as possible. Think fat and meaty jazz bass.

Is the neck pickup also in the 70's position?

No, it is three inches from the bridge pickup as measured from the center of each pickup. The bridge pickup is 1.5 inches from the front of the bridge and, if the neck pickup was also in the 70's position it would be four inches from the other one putting it very close to the neck pocket.

I'm taking my family camping for a few days so hopefully my phone won't work. If you leave me a message it won't be until Friday until I can respond.

Both basses are now hanging at the Atlanta Bass Gallery. If you are in the area head over there to give them a try.
