FS: Cliff Bordwell 5 String Single Cut with Fanned Frets

Sign in to disble this ad
Cliff Bordwell Fanned Fret, Single Cut $2000 $1850 Shipped.

I recently got this in a trade. I was in a position where I needed to sell 2 of 4 recently purchased basses, as I couldn't afford to keep them all. I just kept buying to try and find the best fit for me. I landed on a Bordwell 4 string that is the absolute keeper. I thought I had sold 2 of the others, and took this one as trade, but the sale fell through on one of the ones I had for sale, so I am listing this one as well. This sale may get pulled if there is no deal in place before the other one sells.

This is a beautiful bass, sounds great, plays great, is lightweight and balances perfectly. You can see all the love Bordwell gets around here, and it is well deserved. My bordwell 4 string is my keeper as I mentioned.

Here are the specs from Cliff Bordwell from the original build:

Singlecut(B)modified -Bass 5-string

Dimensions
Scale length: 35-32
Neck shape: Oval
Width at nut: 1.875
String spacing at Bridge: 19mm

Body thickness: 1.525
Weight: 8lbs 3oz (weighed by me)

Construction
Neck: Maple/Wenge "Modern"
Fingerboard: Pau Ferro
Fingerboard Radius: 16"
Nut: Ebony
Full faced:Yes

Body woods
Top: Camphor
Core:Butternut

Headstock Plate:Camphor

Hardware
Color:Gold (see below)
Bridge: Hipshot "A"
Tuners: Hipshot Ultralites
Truss rod: two-way adjustable

Fretted(24)
Dunlop Strap locks 3places.
Output: 1/4" Side mount

Electronics
Pickups: Nordstrand SE’s custom spacing (Pau Ferro wood covers)

Preamp: Passive (see below)
Controls: Volume, Blend, Passive tone (Pau Ferro knobs?)

Since the original build, an active preamp has been added. It now has an OBP-3 installed. The controls are volume, blend, bass, mid, treble, with a toggle switch for mid frequency selection.

Also, the tuners, strap lock pegs and bridge have been replaced with black hardware. The tuners and bridge hardware is the same as the original, except it is black. The strap lock pegs are now Schaller instead of dunlop, but if you care, I have black Dunlops on my other Bordwell and can swap them.

The bass is in excellent condition, a few tiny dings on the sides but so small I doubt they would photograph. I'll be posting my own pics soon, in the mean time, here is a link to a previous thread, back from when the hardware was gold:

Cliff Bordwell Fanned Fret, Single Cut 5er (feeler)

Bass includes a soft shell case, which will be in the pictures.

In the mean time, here are the pictures form the old thread until I get the new ones up:

A testimonial from the original owner about the bass:

Cliff Bordwell Fanned Fret, Single Cut 5er (feeler)

"It is easily among the few finest basses I've played-a truly remarkable instrument. And the top is truly off the chain-pics don't do it justics at all."

This bass is too amazing. I think you should keep it..... then decide to sell it when I have the money to buy it.

If it doesn't sell this week, I'm just closing up the case and sitting on it until the economy bounces back. You may get your wish.

IF YOU HAD LEFT IT PASSIVE...

I DON'T THINK I COULD PASS IT UP. I DON'T LIKE ACTIVE BASSES.

Unfortunately for this circumstance, the pre-amp was put in before I got it. The pre-amp could easily be removed, but it does make for 2 useless knobs and a useless switch. I am pretty sure they are passive pickups though, and could be easily rewired to bypass the preamp, and the preamp could be sold. I would in fact sell it for $100 less without the pre-amp, and have it rewired if you are interested in it that way, it is a nice preamp, and I'd be happy to keep it.
