Up for sale is my Cort Freedom bass, purchased NOS/NIB about 2 months ago. I took it to a luthier and had it set up, including a new set of strings, before I even got it home. The bass comes with a new Fender deluxe tweed gig bag.
The instrument was made in the Cor-Tek factory in Korea, which I believe is the same one that makes the Lakland Skyline models and a host of other models for various manufacturers. Their reputation for quality is well known.
This Cort has 3 pickups - a reverse split "P" and two single coils, basically a typical P/J hybrid but with an additional single coil. Each pickup has its own stacked volume and tone control knobs, and the bass also has an active/passive toggle switch. It has 24 frets, a 34" scale, a thin "jazz" neck for fast playing, and weighs approximately 8.6 pounds. It is in pristine condition - no blems, scratches, etc. as it's only been played in my non-smoking house.
This instrument sounds and plays great! I'm selling it only because I'm thinning out he herd and need but one 4-banger in the arsenal. Price is $375 shipped and insured, which is substantially less than I have into it (as points of reference, the MSRP on this bass was $750, and Bass Central has one on sale right now for $550 + shipping). Paypal preferred...sorry, USA shipping only. |

It's very flexible .. the three pickups give you a wide range of tones from which to choose. Roll off the two single coil pups and you have a classic P bass thump. Roll off the split coil and you get some decent jazz bass sounds. Or use all three pickups (or 2) for a combo sound palate. The tone controls for each pup give you even more sonic options.
I've played classic rock, blues and country; I've seen where others have also used it for funk, rock, jazz and even metal - all with great results.
Want a backup (or maybe even a primary) inexpensive bass with great playability, versatility and sound and build quality? Probably won't do much better than this one! |

What difference is there in tone control when one throws the active switch?
Thanks!

To my ears, there is very little difference in sound volume when the active switch is selected. That said, the volume/tone knobs act independently. For example, if you completely shut down the volume on all 3 pickups you get no sound at all from the instrument (regardless of the position of the active/passive switch). Let's assume you did that and now started turning up the volume on one of the coils - the volume on that coil increases linerally from 0 to max. Same thing with the tone - all the way off is in the low range, all the way clockwise is into the mid/high range - again, a straight line function. The same holds true on all three pickups, which is why you can get so many different sound blends with this instrument. Quote:

Is there a battery?
It's definitely a looker! I'm all about it, but I've almost saved enough gig cash to fix my hammond b3 up. That is the only thing keeping me from trying this unique Cort out. My Marcus is too much of a one trick pony, and I'm not particularly good at that trick, besides!
