A little bit about Daniel Ransom. Daniel is a luthier based in San Francisco and was the brains behind Geoff Gould & Modulus Basses for many years before moving into business for himself. His basses are in high demand by many players around the US including Gary Brown & Keanu Reeves (yes ... the actor believe it or not)
This particular bass sports an ash body with highly figured maple top as well as a maple neck with figured maple finger board. Components include Bartolini hum cancelling jazz pickups paired with an Aguilar OPB-1 preamp (18 volts) with an active passive switch. This bass also sports a comfortable 34" scale with an ABM high mass bridge which can be adjusted to suit your personal string spacing needs. Asking $1550 shipped CONUS. Thank you very much !! |

I normally don't this, but I thought I'd add some commentary on this bass since I am the original owner who commissioned Danny Ransom to build it for me.....
It is a beautiful feeling and sounding instrument, and with the tilt back headstock, stays in tune quite well and sets up easily. This instrument had probably the lowest action of any I've owned. The OP should know that it was PLEKKED which contributes to it's excellent feel. The neck profile I chose is a shallow 'C' shape with a flatter fretboard feel....not a real round radius like a Fender, but more along the lines of an MTD. I chose a medium/tall fretwire.
Danny picked some really nice woods per my request, and the swamp ash is nice and light. The flame maple is gorgeous without being what I call 'pretensious'.....haha! I chose the Aguilar 18v two band preamp as I have always found it to make any instrument with this combo of woods sound natural. The humcancelling Bartolini J's sound big, but IMHO do not produce anywhere near the single coil tone if that is what someone is after....but this set is more modern sounding. I performed live, and recorded with this bass, and it sounds very deep and 'throaty' with some nice (but not obnoxious) highs (depending on EQ of course). I used DR 'High Beams' and D'Addario nickel round wounds....but definately preferred the sound of the D'Addarios. This bass records very easy, and sounded soooo good in any mix it was in.
If it is still in great condition, I would encourage anyone interested to consider it....you would have a hard time finding a better feeling, sounding and looking boutique style 'J' bass. By the way, Bartolini does (did?) offer this exact pickup set in a single coil format. Danny and I were talking about switching them, but we ended up building another bass for me altogether. For what it's worth, he custom built seven basses for me over the years, and this one was THE best in terms of feel, and the one I still think about
Best of luck with the sale....someone will love it. |

The OP's photos do not do the instrument justice. It is MUCH prettier in person |
