Howdy. Got to lessen the gear and raise some cash for a long-term project, so I have to unfortunately let this one go. This sounds great and is a super comfortable 5er. It was made by Doug Roomian of Noe Valley Music in San Francisco in the early to mid 1990s. I got this from a fellow TBer about six months ago. Has only been out of the house a couple times to play with friends. Here's the original link with pics and info:
FS: Rare Doug Roomian 5 String with Bartolinis
Alder body, maple neck, clean ebony board, schaller tuners and adjustable bridge. 34" scale. 1 3/4" at the nut. Weighs around 9 pounds and is very manageable and balanced. Has volume control for each Bart jazz pup, 1 tone control and an active/passive switch (not series/parallel, as noted in the original thread).
Since purchasing the bass, I had it totally cleaned up, set up and frets dressed by Doug himself and put on new D'Addario XL Chromes. Doug said he'd charge about $2000 if he were to make this today.
The bass looks much better than in the pics. The only negative since I got it is a slight ding on the back/top of the headstock (not visible from the front) due to my playing it in a too-small room and hitting the headstock against a metal lamp. I can email a pic of this upon request.
The bass sounds great, solid low B, and the neck is extremely comfortable for a 5er. For full disclosure, and I'm being very picky by pointing these out, the pots occasionally have a little scratchy sound (which I assume can be sprayed out) and there's one small patch on the back of the neck (around 12-14th frets near D-G strings) where the finish is not entirely smooth, but not a big deal at all.
Looking for less than what I've got into it, which means a great bass for the money - $650 shipped via Fedex ground insured to CONUS. Paypal or cash equivalent. Comes with original hard shell case. Not interested in any trades and not desperate to sell, so price is firm for now.
Thanks for looking, DM
