FS: Custom Fretless 4 string - Modulus Neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Up for sale is a custom four string fretless bass. Purchased through this forum a little under a year ago. (original post... Modulus fretless 4 string with sunburst body). Has seen minor use in my studio since then, a change of pickups, knobs, pickguard, wiring, and the LED system was removed.

Modulus graphite neck. 34" scale
TNT jazz body - fireburst
Kent Armstrong Hot Vintage jazz pickups (purchased & installed in september)
CTS pots
Black hardware
Gotoh tuners
EB flatwound strings

This bass plays & sounds great.A few minor scuffs and a dings, nothing that is seen at a distance. Last time I checked, the modulus neck alone new retails for $799. Selling this only because I found the Zon FL I've been searching for.

Includes an extra custom wood pickguard that was on the bass when I purchased it, a spare set of Ernie Ball 50-105 flatwound strings, and a spare chrome control plate.

More photos at my website...

From what I can tell TNT was a company that made guitar and bass bodies, similar to WD etc. I believe they might now be this company: http://guitarpartsonline.com/
When I purchased the bass the previous owner/assembler said the body was a TNT. Seems to be of very good quality and a nice looking finish. The original ad said this was a sunburst, but it doesn't fade to dark at the edges so I think it's more of what I've seen called "fireburst".

Intriquing....How would you compare the sound of this bass to a Zon? And what Zon did you find by the way? My only real gas at this time is for a fretless 4 string bass with a graphite/composite neck.

Regarding the tweed case... I didn't purchase the case along with the bass. I don't play out, the bass was to be used only in my studio so I didn't feel the need for it when i bought the instrument.

jibreel.... I actually think this bass sounds a little better than my Zon, especially since adding the Dan Armstrongs, but I've played a Zon for over 15 years now so it's what I'm used to. The modulus/custom jazz sounds a bit thicker to me when I try them side by side, but it's hard to compare as the Zon is active Barts, which I'm actually planning on replacing with something passive like I did with my Zon fretted. I've always preferred passive pickups. I've had a Zon Sonus for years (with G&L pickups in it... odd I know). The fretless I picked up was another Sonus, albeit a slightly newer one with the smaller headstock. The Sonus neck has always just felt right to me. It seems a bit smaller than the jazz.
At the time I bought the jazz I knew I wanted graphite, and I didn't think I could afford another Zon, but I came across one that needed a bit of work (and the price reflected it) so I jumped on it.
Before this I had a custom jazz built with a moses neck, which sounded great as well (a bit woolier and not as clean as the modulus I think) but the balance never seemed right to me. The moses always felt too neck heavy. The modulus seemed to be an improvement on that, but I still found it wasn't feeling as natural to me as the Zon, and since I switch between the fretted and FL I prefer having a matching neck.

Hope that's not too much information. Thanks for the interest.
