-Ever wonder what those Fred Hammond Darkstars sound like?
-Ever think about finding one on Talkbass and building a parts bass to hear it for yourself?
-Does Lake Placid Blue make you dream of unicorns flying through a peppermint forest?
If your answer is YES to at least two of those questions, then this is the bass for you! DARKSTAR P PARTS BASS
- Fender Roadworn Precision Neck (made in Mexico) 1.75" Nut, (relic-ed)
- Reverse Gear MIM Tuners (relic-ed)
USA MIM LPB Body (bought new on eBay from Stratosphere)
- Fred Hammond Darkstar
- Hipshot B Bridge
The neck is really comfortable.
- Nut Width: 1.75"
- Neck Depth at 1st fret: .83"
- Neck Depth at 12th fret: .94"
- Wood: most likely Alder
- Weight: 9 Pounds, 1.1 ounces (9.07 pounds)
I'm totally a jazz-neck guy but this neck works since it's so shallow front to back. The proportion just feels right. I have no problems switching back and forth between this bass and my 1.5" basses. SOUND
This bass sounds amazing. The Darkstar delivers clean, even, honest tone that blows away both my 70's Fenders. Clean, articulate, lows and highs for days. If you're looking for a bass for walking lines, or for blues, or just some honest, vintage thump, this thing delivers. CAVEAT EMPTOR
There's a TINY GAP between the pickguard and the body (see pics)... the Jeannie's MIM pickguard doesn't cover the control rout.
This is NOT a boutique, shielded, star-grounded electronics job. I wired this up to see what it sounds like. That's it.
If you're expecting the inside of this thing to look like a Callowhill, you will be mistaken.
These MIM tuners can be a bit krufty. I greased them when I built the bass, and they work great... but they're not hipshots by a longshot. PARTS VALUE
Body $169 (from the stratosphere on ebay)
Fender Roadworn Precision neck $300
(People are asking $300 - $400 for these necks on ebay, which is loco. There are cheaper necks out there.)
That's $822 in parts, Not counting pickguard, neckplate, knobs, pots, etc... Asking $600 shipped via UPS Ground, no case,
but will be double boxed, and packed well.
Priced at $600 since I love the sound of this bass, and I'm not in a rush to let go of it. I can do $500 for local pickup
in Cinci, OH to offset packing and shipping cost.
Sorry, not looking for trades.
