For sale is my Epiphone Elitist EB-3. I'm asking $1,150 but will hear any reasonable offers. I have it on CL locally in NYC as well but I love TalkBass and am happily posting here as well.
This is NOT the same Ephiphone EB re-issue that is made in Korea and is basically junk. This is a Gibson Japan Custom Shop model that is discontinued and getting harder and harder to find. These were made along with Orville and Burny label Gibsons for sale in the Asian market and some found their way to Europe and the US. Part of why they were discontinued was because they blew the US Gibson EB-3 re-issues out of the water (and the Korean Epiphones weren't even close) so they didn't want them in the same market. I had this bass shipped to me from Tokyo as it was not available in the US. I personally don't bother with US Fenders or Gibsons as you pay for the name and the Japanese stuff is pretty much always higher quality and this bass is a great example of that point.
This bass is amazing. If you want an EB-3 but you don't want to pay $3k and up for one of this vintage then this is your bass. It's designed to the exact specs of a '61 model and has Gibson US Custom Shop reproduction pickups that do a fantastic job of capturing that "mudbucker" vintage tone. Think Jack Bruce and that's the sound.
I have D'Addario Chromes flatwounds on it right now but I also have the unplayed roundwounds that came on it from the shop in Tokyo. This bass is a dead ringer for a vintage Gibson except with NONE of the problems you'd get with a vintage bass. It has a hard case that is custom for this model. The case is in great shape with a few scuffs. The bass itself is very close to mint with some barely visible play wear if you look very, very close. I'd easily a 9/10 and a very high 9 at that.
I'm only selling this because I also have a Mustang and I really don't play this bass.
I'd be willing to consider trades ONLY for the following:
A Japan Fender Bass VI re-issue
A Japan Fender Jaguar Custom Baritone
I'm not interested in any other trades.
Shipping will be $50 in the Lower 48 States ONLY. No international shipping (yes, this means you too, Canada) and no Alaska or Hawaii shipping at this rate. If you really want it shipped outside of the US Lower 48 drop me a line and I'll find out the exact cost of shipping and work with you.
