FS Feeler: 1977 Fender Jazz Antigua

Sign in to disble this ad
I have 3 fender antiguas and one warmoth antigua. I have debated letting one or two of the group go, as I don't really play any of them. I think I have finally talked myself into getting rid of at least one, perhaps two.
From the serial, I believe this one to be 1977. It is all original with the exception of vintage cream dimarzio pickups. The neck is straight and in fantastic shape. I set it up with low action and it plays wonderfully with no buzz. The body is also in nice shape for a bass of its age. It has turned a bit of cream/yellowish, but has not reached the nasty yellow/green color that some antiguas seem to get. It is a bit yellower than the pics make it appear. There is a bit of discoloration on the back as one would expect from a 32 year old bass. You can see it in pic 2. No major body damage that I can tell, mostly just finish scratches.
The case has seen better days and is missing about a 3" chunk on the front side at the bottom. It is the original case, however.
If I end up selling, I'd like to get $2000 for it shipped CONUS.
No trades please
I currently have my eye on a particular bass. If it ends up selling before this bass does, I will likely end up keeping this one and closing the thread

You still have the original pu's? Also, have you checked out the pot dates? Thanks! Awesome bass.

I do not have the original pu's. The dimarzios were in it when I bought it. I have two other original antiguas, so I wasn't terribly concerned if the pots are original. If it's a deal breaker, then I'll check them.

pots

Okay someone help me out please. I don't know as much about pots as I should. One of the numbers that appears on each pot is 1377826. I did a bit of research online and I am pretty sure the 137 in that number is a cts code. I am also pretty sure the 26 means it was made in the 26th week of the year. I assume that means the 78 means 1978. The serial number on the headstock is S738820. Looking that up online, it appears that serial number could be 1977 or 1978. The bass was advertised as being 1977 when I bought it but I suppose it is likely it could be a 1978. I haven't taken the neck off to look for any markings, and I don't really want to remove it that badly.
The pots are in fantastic shape if they are truly 30 years old
Can anyone give me some more information on dating the pots?

weight

It's pretty heavy. Every bit of 9 lbs. I wouldn't trust a bathroom scale though

9Lbs? When did 9 pounds become heavy?

That's a great weigh for a 70's Jazz!

BTW, that's a Beautiful Jazz you have there!

weight

I'm just guessing. It may be more - bathroom scales are not terribly accurate. It's one of my heavier jazz basses.
Don't get me started on the whole weight thing. Unless you are 85 years old, walking cross country while wearing your bass, or have some type of injury or disability wherein lifting restrictions must be honored, I do not understand why 1-3 lbs. would be a deciding factor in buying a bass

Wow. Awesome Jazz bass. Antigua is so cool with the block inlays. Good luck with the sale.
