FS Feeler: 1980 G&L L-1000 tobacco burst hog/ebony **NICE** (G and L L1k wunkay)

This one really hurts... but I recently picked up a killer Landing L30T (with custom AEROs) and found that I can play short scale with much less pain from tendonitis. So, I'm putting all (all but one?) of my 34 inchers up for sale; I'm not in a place to keep instruments that are not being played.

I have churned through a bunch of basses in the last few years and this is certainly one of my favorites! I would certainly keep this one if judging on aesthetics alone -- the epitome of cool IMO. And this baby has the tone to match! I love wunkays, and this is a great one!

I'm offering up a very nice 1980 wunkay in the revered hog/ebony combination. All original except recent refret to factory specs! And light for a hog wunkay at about 9 lbs!

This is Chef's old bass that I picked up via Spiritfield. In the interest of time, I'm going to borrow Chef's pics (hope he doesn't mind!). I can take more if needed, but it's in the same condition. I don't think it's seen much use since leaving Chef's hands.

My understanding is this was one of Chef's favorite wunkays, and the last to leave his arsenal. But I won't speak for him ... perhaps he'll chime in ...

Chef's old thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f126/g...2000fl-928952/

Will consider a sale for what Spiritfield and I paid ... $900 + shipping. FIRM.

Hit me up before I play this some more, come to my senses, and keep this killer tone machine.

Thanks for looking!

Yup; that's my old bass, a fer real first year G&L gem.
I played the frets off it, Micheal Dolan did a great job on the re-fret, with G&L spec wire.

Great bass.

To answer some questions publically:

Back of neck is clean.

There are no missing knobs. I never noticed the one missing in the last picture... Guess I'm usually dazzled by the gorgeous grain :-)

No funky smells.

Comes in black tolex OHSC.

Everything is in working order.

Neck is straight.

Currently wearing rounds (D'Addario?).

I would say action is currently set medium-low. Saddles have room to drop more. And with the micro tilt 3-bolt neck, you should be able to drop action lower.

Really a sweet bass. Getting lots of interest, but no takers yet.

I've owned a lot of Wunkays over the years, and this one was THE finest example of mahogany/ebony 1980 Wunkay love that I ever found.

Thanks, David. She's a fine one for sure. Got me thinking twice and thrice about this...

Howdy!
the knob in the last picture is missing, because it was mine at that time; and in fact, all those photos are mine. (which is fine with me).
I had some surplus new-old-stock knobs, and it left me with all three knobs.

It's a nice bass.

Bump for an epic bass & great guy to do business with. I have an'81 just like this but with slot pole MFDs and it's one of the few basses I will never part with.

Got a couple nice trade offers I'm mulling over.

Might be interested in a nice short scale or darkstar equipped bass. Whatcha got?

One of these days I'll be in the right financial place at the right time to pick a Wunkay up.

Cold Feet

I changed strings and played this some more today.

I'm closing this thread for now as this thing is too sweet to part with!
