SOLD

Just throwing this up to see if there's any interest.

I haven't played this one much at all since getting my KXB-5. So, maybe it's time to sell it off to someone who would use it.

What I've got is a great sounding, low-hours, red Brute MJX-5. Near mint condition.

Modifications are as follows:

Custom sunburst pickguard by Kevin Brubaker - a $250 value

Bartolini pickups - MM pup has coil-tap switch for single coil mode - Neck jazz pup is "bright" - ~$185

Audere 4-band, 18v, preamp - ~$155 as configured

Black powder-coated bridge and tuning keys (done for me at a local shop here in Fargo)

Currently strung with DR Black Beauties - still very fresh

B-string is stung thru a ferrule at the end of the body - Think warrior style - or thru the bridge

Metallic flame decals on the neck (I was attempting to create something similar, but cheap, to the look of Kevin's custom painted necks. Plus they match the pickguard and I think they look pretty cool .) They don't affect playing and are supposed to come off cleanly if you remove them.

Specs:
19mm spacing at the bridge
1-3/4" width at the nut
34" scale
9.5 - 10 #'s on bath scale
Great neck and fret work . . . You can dial in nice low action with no buzz.
Dual action/directional truss rod

Anyway, after adding everything up I've got just a bit over $1k into it . . . so if I do sell, I would need to get in ballpark of around $800 just to sleep at night. Shipping and a case for it can be discussed if anyone is interested. Not really looking for any trades, but if you've got something of similar value, run it by me. You never know.

Black bridge w/ chrome saddles

Ferrule thru end

Black tuning keys on chrome machines

Back and neck pics per request:

The Brute series has the same deep-set, "bolt through", necks as his high end US basses:

The Brutes', in the tradition the handmade US models, have very comfortable and thin necks

Please PM me with any questions or offers - Thanks!

Custom Bru pickguard most awesome. Are these 34" or 35"?

Are the pickups in stock locations or in new routs?

Is there a photo of the back - especially of the neck?

These are 34". The pups are in the stock location. I'll try and add more pics tonight.

Free bump for a great guy and a great bass. Brutes have by far the best 34" neck I've ever played. The shape is just perfect. These things have zero neck dive and is just comfy to play. And that pickguard...hand made by Kevin Brubaker. I want one so bad for my Brute

bump

I have one of these for my travel bass. Necks are very comfy and fret work is really good for a "cheap" bass. Mine is a JJ5 that I added some sadowsky/nordy singles and a demeter 2 band. It really barks now although the stock electronics aren't bad. I think these are the best basses you can get for under $500. With the upgrades on this one you are getting a bass you can take to any gig/session/wedding .............. ................ Someone should snag this quick before he changes his mind.

Those of you own a 5 string Brute............give an opinion/describe the tightness and effectiveness of the B string. So many of us have been disappointed over and over with 34 inch scale B's. I really like the way this bass looks.

B string

34" scale B strings are never gonna sound like a 35" scale bass does. That being said, the B string on my Brute sounds as good as can be expected. I think the angled headstock helps. This one has a string through bridge so that should help some as well. I like 34" scale basses cuz they are easier on my hands and the upper strings sound better than the 35" basses. If you do a lot of playing on your B string then maybe a 35" scale bass is for you. I use the B string rarely and it's more of a finger "stop" than anything else. Hope this helps. Probably not............

It does help and since we're in this thread let me say---all my research on these Brutes so far comes up positive and all say kind things about Kevin Brubaker the bass creator of the Brute series. Someone needs to grab this incredible bass !!!!

Thanks guys! I put a lot of time and planning into it.

I wouldn't hold my breath on the selling of the KXB . . . if ya know what I mean. I think I'm still in shock that I was able to find one forsale at the same time all my finances were in order and I was able to afford it.

I feel blessed everytime I play it!

It is 19mm/.750" spacing. I added specs to original post. Sorry, forgot that somehow.

Also, no sound clips for this one. I've been meaning to figure out how to do that simply but effectively. Maybe now is the time to attempt that?? Need more hours in the day first I think.
